Great Ocean Road Classic
Ezeefreak
Welcome here in Australia at this beautiful summer day here in january!
Short look at the profile and last years result and then it’s already about to start!

Race Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Profiles/c2_oceanroad.jpg

We have a pretty short race with just 130km to go here. The profile itself isn't too hard but the slightly hilly sections in the middle give a chance for some groups to try there luck. The past has shown that the probability for a sprint at the end is higher than a group or single escapist reaching the goal first.

RACE START

The race starts on time and right after the end of neutralisation the first attacks start. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Ahmad, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gla.png Downey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Stoenchev and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ced.png Croes go first and soon are followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Quinn, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Orosco, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png Cabanas, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mol.png Rivera, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zpc.png Stroll and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Diaz Suarez. They try to create gap to the field but besides a few seconds nothing came out of it yet. Trying for the first 8 km but then they are catched by the peloton again.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss01.jpg

Not much time to relax. Attacks starting again with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mol.png Rivera, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ced.png Croes, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Orosco, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gla.png Downey, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Montenegro, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Louvel, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/dev.png Diaz Suarez followed also by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Quinn, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Ahmad, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png Cabanas to break free and it finally seemed to work!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss02.jpg

After that a second group has formed with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/trg.png Sleen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ghn.png Uhiriwe, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Firdaus, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Bakke Christophersen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Rodriguez follows the 1st one.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss04.jpg

After around 30km the 2 Groups unite at the front to build one consisting 15 riders. They have build a lead of 2:51 now ahead of the peloton. At the field the teams pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/min.png Minions, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Assa Abloy and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mos.png Moser-Sygic mostly controlling the pace.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss05.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png DK Zalgiris and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Puma-SAP joins the other teams to control the gap to the leaders. Gap is now arround 2 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss07.jpg

After around 80 km we are in the more hilly sections with the only part you could describe as a climb. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Firdaus has some problem following the pace of the rest of the group. But soon can rejoin them. The gap is still at 2:09.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mos.png Moser, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Puma-SAP, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/min.png Minions and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Assa Abloy slowly close the gap. Only 30 km to go and the gap has come down to 1 minute.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss12.jpg

We are now only 20 km away from the finish. The group is still in front but the peloton controls the speed and the gam which has come down to 0:44. Most work is now done by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Puma and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/min.png Minions. The pace they are setting leads to some problems at the end of the peloton. Rider like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zpc.png Welten, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/gla.png Bennett and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ced.png Siric having troubles of following the field. Could already be a sign they wont be able to fight for the podium?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss13.jpg

With now only 13 km to go the group ahead only has 24 seconds and stopped working together. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mck.png Quinn attacks frequently and trying to create gap himself. So far it didnt work out and the field keeps chasing.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss16.jpg

10 km before the finish the escapees were catched and we have a big field again. With then 8.4km to go pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aau.png Culey attacks and tries finishing solo. But not even 2km he is back the field.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss17.jpg

5 km to go and some big names try their luck in an attack. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Konychev and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ziz.png Cosnefroy try to create a gap. Puma-SAP doing now most of the work and so they chase these two with the work of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Steimle & pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Rutsch.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss18.jpg

A bit under 3 km and Puma was able to get the field back together and now preparing everything for the final mass sprint! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Steimle is leading the pace for his captain pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kanter.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss19.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Steimle goes out of the lead and leaves the rest to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kanter. The final sprint can begin and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/eav.png Van der Lijke, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Dainese, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kanter are well positioned!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss20.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/eav.png Van der Lijke, is the first to start the sprint and it seems he could suprise the other contenders. He creates a little gap to the rest lead by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kanter!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss21.jpg

Almost there! Still pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/eav.png Van der Lijke in the Lead but he seems to loose some speed now. Can he still keeps the position? After him following pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kanter then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Dainese. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png Afewerki has put himself in a good position ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pol.png Philipsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Abdul Halil!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss22.jpg

He won! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/eav.png Van der Lijke could keep the position with the gap he created at the start of the sprint!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Reports/PTHC/Great%20Ocean%20Road%20Classic/GORC_ss23.jpg

He is followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pum.png Kanter who couldnt reach him anymore. Then there is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/coc.png Afewerki who could snatch the last place on the podium and finish 3rd. In the end he could surpass pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/aab.png Dainese who finishes 4th.
The Top 10 are then completed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/lpu.png Bonifazio, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/pol.png Philipsen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/ino.png Abdul Halil, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/zal.png Halvorsen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/jur.png Bol and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/snz.png Perera. Only at position 17 we can find pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2023/Micros/mos.png Gaviria.

See the full result below for all positions. Congratulations to the winner and the guys on the podium!
