This test against the clock should suit Accumalux - and a repeat result of the World Championship (2nd and 3rd for Millar and Cancellara) would surely secure ProTour glory.
The first major rider on the cause was Markus Fothen
Ruben Plaza beat Fothen by 7 seconds
Michail Ignatiev went 3rd
Michael Ford then took 4th
Before Dominique Cornu took over 3rd place
David Millar led at the first check - 2 seconds ahead of Plaza, 5 ahead of Fothen. At the 2nd check, he had slipped to 1 second slower than Plaza and just 1 ahead of Fothen, and by the finish he was behind both of them - 2 seconds behind Fothen
Dave Zabriskie ripped up the course and took the lead by 34 seconds
Last years winner Sebastien Lang can be happy with provisional 5th
But Robert Gesink wont be pleased with only 7th
Michael Rogers came the closest yet to Zabriskie's time. Taking 2nd place at 15 seconds
And now Fabian Cancellara - but he is down in 7th at the first check! He recovers to 3rd at the 2nd check, will his rise continue? No! He falls back down to 6th, another disappointing ride - it seems he left behind all TT domination form at the Tour de France
