Halo dan selamat datang di kantor pusat tim Indosat Ooredoo untuk musim 2023!
Welcome to our team HQ for the 2023 season! After another season treading water in the PCT division, the team is looking to aim up and comfortably establish ourselves within the division whilst continuing to nurture and develop riders from Indonesia and surrounds.
Tujuan dan Informasi tim jangka panjang "Long term team goals and other information"
We’re going into our 9th season in the MG UCI peloton after successfully navigating our way through the relegation minefield in 2022. Last season, our team leaders Eddie Dunbar and Bruno Borges stepped up and delivered some fantastic results that let us stay afloat in PCT for another season. Dunbar had one of the seasons of all time and managed to finish 3rd in the individual rankings after a crazy run of results.
For this season, we are looking to maintain our focus on identifying and developing Indonesian and SE Asian riders whilst hoping to remain competitive. We have 4 riders returning from loan - Abdurrahman, Nur Hasan, Abdul Halil and Verschaeve - who are now at the peak of their powers. Abdurrhaman and Nur Hasan are two of the most talented cyclists Indonesia has ever produced and are being earmarked as future leaders of the team. Youngsters Wibisono, Yudha and Firdaus will also continue their development. We will be looking to strengthen our Indonesian core during the transfer season and hope to bring in a few more promising youngsters.
Along with establishing a proper cycling federation in Indonesia and massively improving development pathways for local riders, since the introduction of Indosat in 2015 cycling has gone from being completely unknown to having most of the professional calendar televised on the national broadcaster, even including local races and criterium championships. The Indonesian cycling federation is thrilled for the Tour of East Java to continue for another year as a 4-day race, with over 300,000 spectators lining the roads of Java last season for the race, and millions watching on tv.

2023 Jersey
We will be using the same jersey from last season, as it's just too pretty to pass up the opportunity of using it again. Thanks to hillis91 once again for its creation!
It was a predictable and steady renewals period for us, with pretty reliable wages across the board. We had a number of riders maxing out that required higher wages, but we're still quite pleased with the outcome - particularly Abdul Halil. Dunbar took another decrease off his mammoth wage from 2021 and Borges was happy with the status quo. Unfortunately, our renewal period was marred by a huge error - young rider Ahmad Firdaus decided he enjoyed the high life too much and wouldn't entertain any lower offers. We considered letting him go, but decided to stick with him and his diva ways for the time being.
We farewelled a number of riders also. Gesink, Novak and Silva departed due to age after having only having spent a single season with the team. Page leaves us once again during renewals like he did last year, but due to his lack of results last season and the rise of Sandy Nur Hasan, he will certainly be finding a new team. Leigh Howard will be remembered for his 2021 season where he was instrumental in our PCT survival. He leaves after not being able to agree on a lower wage after spending two seasons in Indonesia. Lastly, Indonesia's greatest sprinter Bambang Suryadi has decided to step aside and allow for the youth to come through and replace him. He has been a terrific leadout for both Howard and Alexander Kristoff during his stay with the team and if he is unable to find a suitor for this coming season, will be shoehorned into a coaching role with the team.

Borges is looking to move to greener pastures. We brought him in super last minute last season after not planning to have a puncheur in the team and he still managed to do very well with the limited opportunities he had to ride to his strengths. He's an absolute beast of a rider and his sprint + acceleration combo will make you salivate. He showed what he can do in PCT last season by winning the GC as well as 3 stages (one was a TTT) at the Tour of South Africa. The only reason we're looking to move him on is we want to move away from having a hilly specialist in the team.
The most surprising rider listed is Eddie Dunbar. We are by no means wanting to sell him nor do we have any intention to, but ultimately if him moving on greatly benefited our project we would at the very least listen to an interested team. Our ultimate goal is to take a page out of the ELCO playbook and develop + train our Indonesian riders with the intention of having several very strong Indonesian riders on our roster leading the team in the future. This is still a ways off with Abdurrahman and Nur Hasan not training eligible and Wibisono, Yudha and Firdaus still a few seasons away. If Dunbar is to leave, our desire will be to bring in a number of promising young riders that will be able to hold a similar/greater value and/or big name riders that are still training eligible. If this were to eventuate, a large cash sum would be massively preferred over a swap deal (any kind of swap would need to be massively advantageous to us).
Abdul Halil has recently maxed and he will more likely than not be sticking around.
Viktor Vershaeve returns to us from Isostar newly maxed out. He has a very reasonable wage, is a very handy stage racer and at only 25 can potentially become a very interesting training prospect in the future. He has great energy stats and would be a very handy pickup for a team in any division, and would even lead a team in CT.
Michael Kolar was another late addition to supplement Borges, and like Borges, is now surplus to requirements. A handy hybrid climber, he would be a good fit for a team in any division.
Yudha will need a PT loan where we don't pay the wage (look at Firdaus, we can't afford to ), and we will listen to loan deals surrounding Firdaus where we hope to get some of his wage off the books.
Others: Unlikely, but as always anything can happen in transfers and our door is always open
All 3 from the availability list are riders I would like to have. Whether or not I Can fit them is probably another question. Borges is super cool, though. Would be fun to have him if I sell Koretzky :-)
That question mark speaks for itself
No clue if I could get Eddie without selling my entire team, but if there's a chance, I might be inquiring He quickly went out of reach two years ago - let's see what happens this time around ^^
BB would obviously be super cool a well, but it'd be a one-year shot until Mauro is ready - not sure if that's the way I'd like to go. But I'm sure you've got a pretty interesting transfer period incoming anyway
And I have to admit that I admire your distant target of bringing local riders up to world-class level - would probably be easier to do in PT, but would be great for you to move in that direction already now
@SotD: I’m sure we’ll probably be in contact one way or another then I was surprised to have bought him from you last season, thought if Koretzky went last season he would have been a good replacement
@Fab: Well, you’re always welcome to make some kind of proposal if you like, the worst that can happen is it doesn’t work out And yes, it’s great his wage is no longer 800+k 500k is still maybe slightly higher than I’d like.
Borges has got two really good years left in him. He’ll be fantastic for a PCT team once Yates is confirmed to be going back to PT (hopefully) I think he’d also look good in red and white
And yes, if Dunbar were to leave, promoting would be the goal to fund training for a few Indonesian riders next season.
@LLS: That sounds good! And as for Firdaus’ wage, it’s pretty grim. Would love to shift some of it with a loan, but we’ll see.

Maybe I've had it all wrong thinking I need to add depth to the 2nd, 19th and 20th top scorers in the division. Maybe what I really need is to add the 3rd top scorer in the division

11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant." [ICL] Santos-Euskadi | [PT] Xero Racing
@whitejersey: Well like I said, it’s a very very slim chance at all and would have to be something that can set my team up for the next few seasons. Love having him on the team, but if it means training for my riders in the future an offer may be considered
@jandal: Maybe indeed Would certainly be a replacement for the riders that you need to shift
I'm happy to see that my forrmer talent Bambang Suryadi stayed with the team until his decline and also already has a something set up for after his active career.
@Bikex: He was one of my favourites! Sad that he age has gotten the better of him. Thankfully Nur Hasan can take over the mantle now
Transfers aftermath
We had a tumultuous transfer period where plan A through Z didn't quite work out, so it resulted in a relatively tame and quiet transfers instead. Our main goal was to facilitate the sale of Bruno Borges to allow us to bring in a strong GC rider in his place. He was sold to new PT outfit ZARA where he will have the opportunity to lead them in big races and lead their Ardennes campaign. Once Borges was sold, our shortlist was quickly whittled away and eventually we landed on a rider that we have long admired - Adam Yates. He joins us after a terrific season that saw him finish 3rd in the Vuelta and 9th in the Tour for former team Lidl. We did have ongoing negotiations with Belgian Sean De Bie, but it wasn't to be.
Our second goal was to bring more Indonesian riders into the team, of which we signed 2 - Aiman Cahyadi and Prasetyo Firdaus. Cahyadi has been on the team's radar for a number of seasons, but now the time is right. Firdaus joins his brother Ahmad now also! There were 3 other Indonesia riders we weren't able to bring in, with one of them thankfully finding a home at another team (Bernard Van Aert).
Our final goal was to strengthen our sprint/flat department. Charkasov was our preference, but after a late bid his wage demands were too much for us. Due to timings with deals, we were never really able to pursue any of the free agents on our shortlist until the end of the window. We were lucky enough to bring in Clement Venturini to act as pilot fish for Abdul Halil and Nur Hasan for the season.
We also (to an extremely small extent) considered selling Eddie Dunbar for the combined GDP of a small country, however our small shortlist of possible replacements were all unavailable. Maybe next year

Our youth department didn't do a whole lot this time around, with Prasetyo Firdaus the only proper signing for the future. What a rider he will be though! He will be a welcome addition to our TTT department in a few seasons time.

Training
The biggest takeaway from the presentation is the wind tunnel training Eddie Dunbar has been undertaking during the off-season:

Dunbar's training path continues along the TT-line. With so many of his closest rivals moving to other divisions, it was an obvious choice - especially with other similar riders most likely also being trained it's thought to be best to stay ahead of the curve while we can. It brings him closer to the likes of Zmorka and hopefully ahead of Powless-type riders for the time being. We're hoping that he can find the form that lead to last season's 850+ point haul, and although it seems an unrealistic goal hope to capitalise on his TT training.
Comments and prediction
Considering how the transfer period went, we are quite happy with how things turned out. Another big leader was brought in as well as some decent support riders to add depth to the squad. We have decent coverage with our 3 top riders and only two real weaknesses - cobbles and hilly classics.
Yates is a big signing for us and the first proper out and out GC rider the team has had since Intxausti many moons ago. We dropped a lot of points in mountainous races last season as we went with a depth approach. Our group of 75+ climbers never really worked well together, so Yates signing on is huge for the team. He has a decent cohort of stage racers and climbers behind him, with both Rohendi and Abdurrahman more than able to take their own chances and should both add some decent depth scoring.
Dunbar will again take up a hybrid TT role racing on all terrains. He will be hoping to have a better conversion rate after his 4 2nd place GC finishes last season. He should always have decent support - Bilbao and Cahydai were signed as key lieutenants in the hillier races for Dunbar. Due to the TT'er premium during transfers, Kochetkov was the only rider able to be brought in to strengthen our TTT setup. Another few TT riders were wanted, but any we pursued quickly became expensive.
No top puncheur was signed after Borges' departure, so Bilbao was brought in for a small fee from Kraftwerk. He'll take what small opportunities are left after Dunbar and Yates, and even though age is catching up with him he should still be able to hunt for a good result during the season.
Leigh Howard left the team after 2 seasons, and has now been replaced by a newly maxed Abdul Halil. This is the first time in 6 years we haven't had an Australian as our main sprinter, with former WC Matt Goss being Howard's predecessor. We're cautiously optimistic about what he can achieve this year, and are taking care to plan his season. He is not expected to be a prolific point scorer with so many talented sprinters in PCT, but along with Nur Hasan he should add valuable points to the tally. Venturini and Gani should also be able to do a decent job in getting both in a good position.
Overall, we think we should be in for a relatively comfortable season. It was a tough off season and transfers for a number of teams, we got lucky with signing a rider like Yates and were also able to train Dunbar. Both should score well, which leads to my prediction for the season:
After transfers, we've only managed to have one national champ riding for the team for season 2023 - Indonesian Road NC Abdul Gani. We have repurposed the jersey from last season, because we think it is nice to look at. It was wonderfully made by hillis:
