The break hoping to make it today were Cummings, Casper, Euser, Fleeman, Dowsett and Jacobs
Their lead was allowed to grow early on, but it soon came down once B&O set a fast pace on the two big hills midway through the stage
In the 2nd grouping of hills, later in the race- 35km to go, we had the first action from the favourites
Leukemans, Astarloa, Bertagnolli, Hagen and Lobato
They wouldnt work togther and so were caught
Hagen then went again, catching the breakaway
He pressed on into a solo lead
While Roche has attacked and also got to the break
Hagen attacks on the flat section after this hill but after that he stops. Roche easily comes up to him, dragging Euser with him
For whatever reason, Hagen isnt relaying. Euser is though and when he comes through on the hill, the trio are caught
We then had some action from 2 riders yet to show their hand until now. Gutierrez Palacios and Zaballa!
Theyve got a gap and are working together!
Although they have Martin, Lobato, Froome, Leukemans, Bertagnolli, Astarloa, Blanco, Hagen and Roche chasing them.
You would expect the 10 chasers to be able to close in on the lead 2. But some of the leaders were more interested in making short pointless attacks
Zaballa and Gutierrez Palacios will stay away! Who will win it?
Froome leads the chasers as they enter the final kilometre, but 3rd is the best the group can hope for
Grivko storms away as the lead riders approach the line. Astarloa looks to follow him as Hagen seems to be struggling
Constantino Zaballa wins the Giro dell'Emelia!
Gutierrez settles for 2nd, while Grivko takes 3rd.
Bertagnolli takes 4th as Hagen comes through for 5th. It gives him the lead in the individual rankings, but is not the result he hoped for
