The final stage is the last chance for the sprinters. The overall standings should be decided, but the points classification is what the best sprinters will be after. The last part of the stage is pan flat so maybe we see some effective lead out trains today.
De La Cruz Chapulin and Richardson are the first attackers.
Kolze Changizi, Redy and Garcia have joined them, but the peloton is not happy with the current situation.
Barcelo and Umerbekov are able to get a bigger gap as they counter attack from the previous moves.
Redy and Garcia are persistent though and they make it so we have a 4 rider breakaway group.
Two only two KOMs come in quick succession, but there is no contest for them. Barcelo does collect 5 points to move into 3rd in the classification. There is no movement on the other climbs also, no other important changes.
With no consequences Umerbekov wins the intermediate sprint located 70 km from the finish, the last one is only 11 km out. We'll see if the breakaway reaches it, the gap to the peloton is just under 3 minutes.
They just make it as Umerbekov scores 6 more points. The peloton is 34 seconds behind.
Teams are trying to set up for the sprint. Colombini is the team with numbers up front that is controlling proceedings.
3 km to go and we see a full De Bondt-Itami-Saber train on the left with a line of sprinters all behind them. On the other side Kanter is being moved into position with Wippert, Matthews and Rajovic there also.
2 km to go, Oktal bring their own train of Tivani-Perera-Wippert together and right next to Colombini.
Perera muscles his way through and disrupts the Colombini setup in the process.
Wippert is released with 700 m to go. Itami and Saber are on their own. Next on the road is Matthews with Keough then leading the other sprinters.
Wippert has the edge on Itami and it looks like Oktal have got this one right.
They have! Wouter Wippert wins by a good margin ahead of Saber who recovers to at least finish 2nd. Matthews is 3rd.
As expected we don't get any GC suprises on the final stage. Szymon Rekita is 2022 winner of the Herald Sun Tour! He is joined on the podium by his Polish teammate Krzysztof Marchewka and Frederik Frison.
Saber closes out his season with winning the points classification. Lietaer is the King of the Mountains for Staffbase and Erdenebat is the best young rider.
