Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal
Welcome to Canada, or as the Francophones will say - Bienvenue au Canada. We've reached the final few races of the season and for some the season may be over, but for those fighting for survival in PT and PCT as well as those in PCT looking to punch their ticket to the promised land of the PT division it's not over yet - not by a long shot. And this race will either make dreams come true for some or become a nightmare for others. But let's find out.
If you were present at the PTHC races reveal during the off-season you may have noticed something different. Throughout its history this race was a 2-day affair around the cities of Montreal and Quebec City. Unfortunately this year the peloton would compete in Montreal only and some might be disappointed by MGUCI's decision to not race in Quebec City, but it is what it is. The profile hasn't really changed, so nothing really surprising here - the hilly riders will be again the favorites
The last time the peloton was in Montreal
1 | Alexey Lutsenko | Isostar - Specialized | 5h19'10 | 2 | Arnaud Demare | Team Puma - SAP | s.t. | 3 | Simon Yates | Zwift Pro Cycling | s.t. | 4 | Peter Sagan | Moser - Sygic | s.t. | 5 | Clement Koretzky | Festina - OAKA | s.t. | 6 | Petr Vakoc | ISA - Hexacta | s.t. | 7 | Sean De Bie | Aegon - Peroni | s.t. | 8 | Kamil Malecki | Gazelle | s.t. | 9 | Matej Mohoric | King Power | s.t. | 10 | Jack Bobridge | Project: Africa | s.t. |
As we're only racing in Montreal this year, I've decided to use only the results from that stage during last year's edition. 22 riders finished in the leading pack with Isostar's Lutsenko outsprinting them all. He also won the overall win by 8 seconds from the winner in Quebec Sean De Bie. This race was one of the many the lime green team from Slovenia took en route to their overall team win, but weirdly enough they've decided to NOT participate this year. However, Yates, Sagan, Koretzky Vakoc and De Bie will appear once again to try and win. But who are the favorites this year?
| HI | STA | RES | SPR | ACC | De Bie | 84 | 77 | 76 | 72 | 75 | Lopez | 84 | 76 | 74 | 66 | 78 | Sagan | 83 | 78 | 74 | 73 | 76 | Kelderman | 82 | 80 | 75 | 67 | 72 | Koretzky | 81 | 77 | 70 | 71 | 79 | Vakoc | 81 | 75 | 71 | 71 | 74 | Kwiatkowski | 81 | 74 | 76 | 67 | 75 | Yates | 81 | 77 | 70 | 77 | 80 | Ponzi | 80 | 71 | 66 | 72 | 74 | Di Maggio | 80 | 70 | 65 | 63 | 72 | Prevar | 80 | 77 | 70 | 67 | 73 | Bilbao | 79 | 77 | 71 | 71 | 75 | De Plus | 79 | 74 | 73 | 61 | 72 | Chaves | 79 | 74 | 73 | 60 | 72 | Barbin | 78 | 75 | 73 | 71 | 76 | Gesbert | 78 | 80 | 78 | 68 | 73 | Eriksson | 78 | 78 | 74 | 65 | 76 | Gaudu | 78 | 78 | 75 | 68 | 70 | Valter | 78 | 75 | 74 | 69 | 76 | Ulissi | 78 | 80 | 68 | 72 | 72 |
A lot of faces return to Montreal gunning for the win, but only one can claim the glory. De Bie was considered the top favorite last year, but came up short. Now, he he is again the top favorite stat wise and he would want to make sure he lives up to his status. But he's not alone - Evonik's Lopez would also be there and he would want to make sure the Belgian is denied once again. Sagan, Kelderman, Koretzky, Vakoc and Kwiatkowski all have claims for the throne as well and could also mess up the win aspirations for De Bie and Lopez.
However, stats aren't everything and we could see a surprise win. Yates is perhaps the best pick to provide an upset and could ruin the favorites plans. But we can't write off riders with HI stat under 80 if the race ends in a bunch spring. This would provide guys like Bilbao, Chaves, Eriksson or even Ulissi to challenge for the win.
And here is the start list:
Spoiler De Bie | Sean | Aegon - Peroni | Barbin | Enrico | Aegon - Peroni | Vansevenant | Mauri | Aegon - Peroni | Denz | Nico | Aegon - Peroni | De Kleijn | Arvid | Aegon - Peroni | Van der Hoorn | Taco | Aegon - Thanks for the preview, Ivan. Strong startlist here in Canada, hope Kelderman is able to get a top-10.

Eriksson and Gaudu team up here without Beltran, so looking for an upset if possible, but not expecting too much in what is a strong field of favourites.
Thanks for the preview

Forgot this clashed with Euskal, guess that is Houle's last race at max stats not this one. Hope Stannard does better than Japan (71st)

Warm up race for Lombardia, no pressure at all here. We are far away from relegation by now, we are too far away from even getting close to our top 5 goal. So we will take whatever we get from here and hope for an active and interesting race no matter the outcome.

Lovely action by Wilco. Great to see the team controlling the race for him, and him being so active in the leading group. His attack seemed to come at the right time and he had the perfect and strong guys with him, but sometimes it's just not meant to be. I'm really glad though, as this Kelderman should be an incredible PCT asset next season for our promotion hunt. Thanks for the report, Abhishek, and congratulations on the win to roturn.

Another relegation come back story for Aegon? Congrats, roturn.
Guess Bobridge didn't have enough race days to be here as well which means we go into Lombardia in the safe spot (I think), barely hanging in there by a few points though.

Very similar to Rheden I can't ask for much more than I got
Buitrago got in the breakaway and finished in the points with McCormick also sneaking into top 50. Gaudu 13th and in the same group as the winner is very good and Eriksson 22nd is also very solid.
Nice to see Debbie finally getting one and thanks for the report

Nice for Strong to grab 5 points from the break but another pathetic Stannard outing. Can't wait until he's maxed because his 77HI self is worse than expected

Got the bunch sprint I wanted for Bilbao, 11th place is OK but Chaiyasombat in 15th from the break is a very welcome surprise.
Thanks for the report Abhi and congrats to roturn for the win.

De Bie!
Congrats roturn, makes the relegation fight even more intriguing to watch. Two managers will hate the result but De Bie was due a big victory after so many desaster performances this season.

Thanks for the congrats!
It`s not over yet...wasn`t expecting this here to be honest after the Japan failure and then seeing De Bie in one of the later positions and being gapped at one point. But apparently he saved energy there.
Nice report and obviously for me a joy to read. |

Great to see De Bie take the win and help Aegon have an actual shot at surviving.
5th from Koretzky is about right, although a podium surely was possible here.
