20th December 2006

Alexander Löfgren has taken over the job as Cofidis manager. This move was slightly surprising since it’s been rumored that he was going to another French team, AG2R.Despite that he has now signed a 3 year deal with Cofidis and is expected during that time to make them the best French team in the Pro Tour and also one of the best 5 overall.
“We are proud to have Alexander on board, he has proven himself to be a great manager in the past and we hope he can do the same here. The signing has been met by approval by the trainers and the squad. ” – confirms a source within the French team.
Alexander has previously worked with Rabobank and the Rabobank Espoirs- Also with Liquigas and a brief period with Selle Italia. He is from Sweden and announced the following about his new job when he arrived.
“It’s very nice to be hear. When I was asked I agreed right away, it’s just the challenge I was looking for. The team is talented and I can’t wait to see what they can manage. We will add a few riders to the team before the season starts. Most likely a couple of French and Italian riders.
My personal goal this season is to take the team to the top 10 of the Pro Tour and make them the best French team. It will be hard, but I’m confident that we will succeed. Of course our big goal of the year is the Tour de France. There my hope is to get stage wins and a jersey. Other races we are looking forward to is Paris-Roubaix, Paris-Nice and Giro d’Italia.” – He said.
Alexander also announced that the team presentation will be on January 4th, were we of course will be to take a closer look on the riders and there goals this year.

Team Presentation:
www.velo-photos.com/cpg132/albums/userpics/10001/NE2X8768a.jpg

Welcome to this years team presentation, our team this year is mostly French and Belgian riders, but also some other nations mentioned, like Italy. The main goals this season are doing well in French races, especially Tour de France and also in Giro d’Italia and the cobble classics.

Our sponsor goals are:

- Win Critérium International
- Top 3 Ronde van Vlaanderen
- Stage win Giro d’Italia
- Stage win Tour de France
- Win GP Quest de France-Plouay

I also have some personal goals that I have mentioned earlier, I also hope of getting someone in the top 10 in Giro d’Italia and top 15 in Tour de France.
The riders that are going to make this happen is:

Nick Nuyens:
www.equipe-cofidis.com/images/equipe/equipe/nuyens.jpg
Belgain cobble specialist that will hopefully manage a top 10 in all 3 cobble pro tour races and gaining us some points. He wants to win RvV, but is satisfied with top 3 there. Later during the year he will do his best to give us a stage win in Tour de France,

Ivan Parra Pinto:

www.equipe-cofidis.com/images/equipe/equipe/parra_pinto.jpg
Best climber and GC rider we have. Will aim for a top 10 position in Giro d’Italia this year and maybe also participate in Vuelta Espana.

David Moncoutie:

www.equipe-cofidis.com/images/equipe/equipe/moncoutie.jpg
Our GC rider for Tour de France, he will be aiming for a top 15 place and also taking the mountain jersey. Other then that he will rider some smaller stage races and try to do his best there.

Sylvain Chavanel:
www.equipe-cofidis.com/images/equipe/equipe/chavanel.jpg
Also a rider with Tour de France as main goal this season. He will be leader in Paris-Nice among other races as well.

Bradley Wiggins:
www.equipe-cofidis.com/images/equipe/equipe/wiggins.jpg
The big goal of the year is to win the prologue in Tour de France for him, he will prepare for it during the first part of the year, by riding some smaller stage races.

Tyler Farrar and Leonardo Duque:

www.equipe-cofidis.com/images/equipe/equipe/duque.jpg.www.equipe-cofidis.com/images/equipe/equipe/farrar.jpg
Our two best sprinters, they will do there best to help each other to stage wins in different races this year. Hopefully they will get about 10 win together during the season.

uhm...Duque can get quite a few wins in breaks in all terrain, but he isn't really a sprinter...

let me check his SP stat in the PPDB Grin

aside from that, liked the presentation Smile good luck!

also, Moreni, Scheirlinckx (I dare you to write that name without copy/paste...), Monfort and Hoj, any plans for them or is it flavor of the moment?

Leader: Duque

Our team here isn't that strong, so our hope is to get a podium place in one of the sprints. Will be a challenge with Duque as our leader when riders like Cavendish and Carrara is here. Todays stage is fairly flat, so we hope for a calm stage that's going to end with a bunch sprint.

Stage 1

i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/alexcofidis/PCM0014.jpg
There is a breakaway away today as always. With 96km left something happens.......the strong wind breaks the peleton and only 24 riders get away, including Duque so we are happy

i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/alexcofidis/PCM0015.jpg
The peleton is back together and the break will be caught, so it's going to be a sprint today. We are getting Duque in to position.

i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/alexcofidis/PCM0016.jpg
Break is caught with 3km left as planned. Lequantre has taken Duque to the hweel of Chavanel, but it will be hard. We can see Cavendish as 3rd rider in the train, he has a great chance to win.

i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/alexcofidis/PCM0017.jpg
With a late jump from Clerc's wheel he takes the win. Duque arrives in 5th place, slightly disappointing.

Stage 2

i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/alexcofidis/PCM0019.jpg
An 11 man break stunned the peleton today, we can see here with just 24km left Cofidis is working with 5 riders to catch the break.

i197.photobucket.com/albums/aa296/alexcofidis/PCM0020.jpg
Won't happen, they will fight for the win. The peleton will however stop it from being any time gaps.
