pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/01.jpg

The streets of Paris are lined with cycling fans today, celebrating the riders and cheering them on.

We’ve made it! After a long 20 days and an also very long transfer flight from Luz Ardiden to Chantilly, a small town north of Paris, the remaining 181 riders make their way to the Champs Elysées today. It’s not a long ride, just a few dozen kilometers into the city and then five rounds on the iconic circuit between the Arc de Triomphe and the Place de la Concorde. Time for most riders to either celebrate their achievements or lick their wounds, but for some, this is one of or maybe even the most important stage of the race.

First and foremost, the points classification hasn’t been decided just yet. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pum.png Herklotz is the leader and the main favorite, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Dainese can still take the green jersey with a stage win, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Manninen needs a stage win and additionally a first or second place at the intermediate sprint. Both possible scenarios, but longshots nonetheless.

For other sprinters, this is simply the opportunity to either crown an already good race, or to switch the narrative and make an otherwise mediocre or even disappointing race look much better. And then, there’s of course also the outside chance of a breakaway surprising everyone.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/02.jpg

The four leader jerseys line up together for one last time. For pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ced.png Beltran, it’s also the first time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/03.jpg

The first attack of the day comes from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gzl.png Konrad and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/zpc.png Powless.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/04.jpg

And that’s it. The two quickly build a lead and enter the streets of Paris with 1’30 on the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/05.jpg

At the intermediate sprint on the first lap of the Champs Elysées circuit, that’s up to 2’30. With this, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Manninen no longer has a chance to win the points classification.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/06.jpg

Fully focused on the stage win now, none of the sprinters go for the remaining points. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Los Pollos Hermanos and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Aker – MOT lead the way.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/07.jpg

With one and a half laps remaining, the gap is down to 1’20.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/08.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/09.jpg

Half a lap to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/zpc.png Powless leaves pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gzl.png Konrad behind. De Stijl have taken the lead in the peloton. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Kemboi has had a horrendous race so far, maybe he’s looking for redemption today.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/10.jpg

They catch pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/zpc.png Powless just a couple kilometers later. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Kemboi is already close to the front, as are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gct.png Rojus, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/isa.png Harrison, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Dainese and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ela.png Bouglas. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Manninen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/hsk.png Van Poppel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/kng.png Hsu are a bit further behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/11.jpg

The former two have come closer as they ride through the underpass for the final time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/12.jpg

Onto the finishing straight, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/hsk.png Roosen leads pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/hsk.png Van Poppel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Bettiol leads pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Kemboi. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Manninen got stuck in traffic a bit, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Ruiz tries to shepherd him to the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/13.jpg

He does so excellently, but also very early. Still 1.5 kilometers to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Kemboi takes over with 1 kilometer to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gct.png Rojus is in the wind to the right, behind him pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/hsk.png Van Poppel, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/isa.png Harrison and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/zpc.png Ackermann. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Dainese is also in the mix ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ced.png Zariff and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ela.png Bouglas.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Kemboi remains in the lead, 600 meters to go now. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/yor.png Pidcock is also trying his hand at sprinting here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Manninen moves past pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Kemboi, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Dainese now attacks to their left. He’s the fastest right now, this is his push to win the points classification!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/17.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Dainese sprints past everyone and takes a big lead!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/18.jpg

And he does it! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Alberto Dainese wins on the Champs Elysées and wins the green jersey! What an absolute revelation this young man has been in this race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/19.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Manninen finishes second. A good result to add to his two stage wins, even if he ultimately falls short of green. Behind him, it’s really close.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/20.jpg

Barely visible to the naked eye, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/hsk.png Van Poppel takes third place ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gct.png Rojus. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/zpc.png Ackermann is fifth, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Kemboi sixth, which, incredibly, is his best result of the race.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/21.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/evo.png Thijssen is seventh, then pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/grm.png Larsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ela.png Bouglas. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/iso.png Peak beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/yor.png Pidcock by a few centimeters to take 10th, stage 2 winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/isa.png Harrison comes in 12th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/22.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ced.png Zariff arrives in 13th place ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/yor.png Hayter and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/tti.png Zakarin. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pum.png Herklotz tried his best to take a few points but it’s only enough for 18th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/GTM/Tour/S21/23.jpg

The peloton finishes as one, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/evo.png Lehtinen is the final rider to cross the line as we bid farewell to this year’s Tour de France.

And with that, three intense weeks of racing come to an end. It was never really close at the top of the GC, but behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pum.png Herklotz, who joins Simon Spilak, Andy Schleck and Angel Madrazo as two-time winners of the Tour de France, there were some very tense battles that were decided by as little as 2 seconds.

While the young rider classification was also never a true contest, and the teams classification was up in the air until late but ultimately a fairly sure thing for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mos.png Moser - Sygic, the other two classifications came down to the wire. Both pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Dainese and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/ced.png Beltran snatched the jerseys away from their previous owner on the last possible day.

The sprints were primarily dominated by three riders: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/akm.png Dainese, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/kng.png Hsu and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lph.png Manninen all won two stages, only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/zpc.png Ackermann and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/isa.png Harrison managed to break their supremacy.

The non-sprint stages were characterized by a lack of breakaway success. It was therefore the fast and aggressive GC contenders who were able to ride their way to glory: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/dsc.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pol.png Latour both won two stages, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pum.png Herklotz even three.

With all of that in the rearview mirror, there’s only one thing left to do: Let’s head to the podium and celebrate our winners.
