Tour of Vancouver - Stage 6 Report

It's the penultimate stage of the race and it's the final chance for the riders to create gaps ahead of tomorrow's Team Time Trial finale. Bumpy throughout with 3 Cat 3s and 2 Cat 2s before a short, steep finish up Zoa Peak.

GC Leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss will have a battle on his hands today controlling the other favourites here. The likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi and the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Caja A-A duo have a point to prove. It's all going to be about getting into a defendable or attacking position for tomorrow!

It's still very early on here as the riders are on the first climb of the day. 14 riders have quickly established a gap of 2'41. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bia.png Fortunato is closest in the GC but still 5'28 back. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller is 3rd in the KOM and will no doubt look to win it from the break.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/esc.png Lovik attacked the breakaway to win the 2nd KOM sprint with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Thiery 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller 3rd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller moves to 24 points to lead the KOM but he'll need to keep scoring. The gap for the breakaway is back to 4'34.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0004.jpg

The 2nd intermediate sprint is also uncontested. The gap has once again been reduced as it is now 2'31 with 110km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0005.jpg

It's tightly contested over the Cat 3 Black Mine Rd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bia.png Fortunato is through first ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/esc.png Lovik and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Thiery. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller now has a lead of 12 points to Stüssi.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0006.jpg

60km to go as the gap is down to 2'38. The workload is being shared between pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Pas Normal, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Jura, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/amc.png Amaysim and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Tryg.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/esc.png Lovik wins the final KOM with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller 3rd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller is on 34 points with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/esc.png Lovik on 22. With 20 points available for the stage winner, it'll depend on what race favourite takes it. 3'30 is the gap with 45km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0008.jpg

25km to go and there is no more flat road. It's uphill, some slight downhill respite and then uphill to the finish. The gap is 2'10 as the Peloton is down to 58 riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0009.jpg

7km to go and it's all uphill from here. The gap for our 6 remaining escapees is down to 1'07.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel starts the fireworks in the Peloton. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Kozhatayev and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi looking to react.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0011.jpg

5km now remaining and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi is the leading rider on the road as he slowly accelerates away again.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi quickly gets a gap as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel is the only one to keep with him. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Kozhatayev is the rider in between. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru leads the Peloton for the time being as race leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss moves to the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0013.jpg

3km to the line and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi looks too strong for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel who is 19 seconds behind him now. It's then an additional 21 seconds to the other leaders group of 11.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0014.jpg

1.3km left for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi! He has a gap of 1'20 to this group of 5. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel leads this group which also includes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Kozhatayev, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bdx.png Iturria, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bee.png Perez and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gla.png Mannion and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru are a further 20 seconds back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0016.jpg

It's a well-deserved stage win for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Colin Stüssi! He kept pushing all the way to the line to gain back some of the time he'd lost previously.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0017.jpg

+53" for the group of 5 behind him. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss leads them over the line just ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bdx.png Iturria with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Kozhatayev 4th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel 5th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bee.png Perez the surprise inclusion in 6th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0018.jpg

+ 2'15 for the next group on the road led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gla.png Mannion. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru is here, as are other Top 10 riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/amc.png O'Connor finishes just ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Alarcon, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gla.png Talansky and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Masnada. ~3 minutes for all these riders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss holds onto his GC lead by 43 seconds to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi who is now 2nd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel is just back in 3rd. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bdx.png Iturria are a further minute back and then it's an even larger gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Kozhatayev and the rest of the Top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi's stage win gives him the lead in the Points over Stepniak.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi also takes the KOM lead.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Revard with a clear lead in the U25s.
