Tour of Vancouver - Stage 4 Report

It's the first opportunity for the climbers after the opening TT and it's a challenging one with a Cat 3 at 42km, Cat 1 at 102km and a very steep final HC climb up to the finish line in Upper Joffre Lake.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/Stage%204%20Profile.png

The pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Caja Rural duo may be 2 of the top favourites here but it'll be all hands on deck throughout for them today. Must be a decent chance for a breakaway too given the profile and the inevitable interest in the KOM.

It's a beautiful day for the riders which should make for exciting, attacking, riding!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0001.jpg

A 13 man breakaway has formed with still 160km remaining. This group has a gap of 2 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller is first over the Cat 3 with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Balmer 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Jacobsen 3rd. 139km to the finish and the gap up to 4'42.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0003.jpg

Only a few riders compete for the intermediate sprint which gifts the win to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/vlf.png Rojas with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0004.jpg

The better climbers in the break get a gap over the top of the 8.1km Cat 1 which results in pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/stb.png Wohrer taking maximum points ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Jacobsen. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Miller has the lead in the KOM by 2 points. The gap to the Peloton is in excess of 5 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/vlf.png Rojas makes it 2/2 in the intermediate sprints. Our 12 man breakaway, excluding pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bia.png Chatarunga, has a 2'53 gap with 45km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0006.jpg

20km remaining for the Peloton where the pace is being set by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Jura and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png McCormick with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Pas Normal also getting involved. The gap is only 1'18 with 7.4km to the base of the final climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0007.jpg

10km to go and it's all uphill from here with a very steep average gradient. 5 members of the breakaway remain a minute ahead of the 80 man Peloton where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru (+ 43") has kicked off the accelerations.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0008.jpg

8.2km remaining. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel are just ahead of the others where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Schleck is best placed. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi wasn't very well placed earlier but he's looking stronger now ahead of his team mate Masnada and the other leaders, including pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Alarcon.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0009.jpg

6.7km as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel catches and passes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru. The Czech looking good here!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0010.jpg

5km to go and it's between pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss right now. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru struggling to keep with this duo.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0011.jpg

About a minute back we have 5 riders including pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Schleck, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bdx.png Iturria, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Henao.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0012.jpg

2km to the top and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru is still 20 seconds behind the duo of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bdx.png Iturria and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Schleck are a further 1'23 back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0014.jpg

Our 2 leaders go all the way to the line together! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Sep Kuss wins Stage 4 as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel doesn't have the legs to go round him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru takes 3rd on the stage, + 24" for him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi (+ 1'44) finishes just ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bdx.png Iturria and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Schleck, + 1'59.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0017.jpg

A mix and match group of 7 is led over the line by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Henao with 3 of them at 2'39 and the other 4 at 2'59.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/gla.png Talansky comes in at + 3'26 with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Kozhatayev just behind at + 3'39.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Masnada in at + 3'50. His team mate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Mader and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Alarcon come in at + 4'02.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0020.jpg

Plenty of changes in the GC where pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Kuss takes the lead over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Aru and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/trg.png Schlegel. It's quite a gap back to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stüssi and others. Former leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Alarcon drops outside the Top 10.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Vancouver/Pics/Stage%204/PCM0021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Revard leads the U25s.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Jura extend their lead in the Teams.
