A much longer stage than yesterday's at 181km but a similar result to be expected in that it should come down to another sprint.
Disappointing from some of the top guys yesterday but top favourite Krieger was able to live up to the billing. Can he make it back-to-back?
It takes a while but we have a 4 man breakaway set with 130km to go. In here are Engelhardt, Mendoza, Kelly and Monk.
A late contest for the intermediate sprint as Mendoza just pips Engelhardt to take it.
Kelly is the strongest over the KOM as he moves to 2nd where he'll be at the end of the day. 95km remaining and the gap is 4'00.
We jump forward to 30km left and the gap has been brought steadily down to 1'17.
The gap is down to just 24 seconds with 10km remaining. Bianchi, Tryg and Le Creuset are the 3 teams sharing the workload at the front of the Peloton which they've been doing all day.
The catch is made and we have only 4km to go! On the left it's Frison with Krieger in his wheel. Nizzolo and Stepniak follow. On the right side it's Kmieliauskas leading Boivin with Major and Dzervus in pursuit.
2km now to go and this is how it looks as we have 3 different trains.
Omarsson
Krieger
Larsen
Dzervus
Hamilton
Silva
Stepniak
Thiery
Gibbons
Boivin
Tzortzakis
Major
Nizzolo
Berger
900m remaining and Gibbons leads. Boivin is the closest other sprinter with the order behind him of Major, Krieger and Nizzolo.
It's a very different situation with 300m to go! Nizzolo now leads with Major 2nd. Wohrer, Tzortzakis, Boivin and Berger are most likely to contest these 2.
but WHAT A FINISH FROM GRZEGORZ STEPNIAK! The Pole flies past the others and wins Stage 3!
Berger takes 2nd with Tzortzakis 3rd, Boivin 4th and Nizzolo 5th. Dzervus is 6th ahead of a surprising Wohrer 7th and Major 8th. Schachmann is 9th and Gibbons rounds out the Top 10.
We didn't notice this but the Peloton is all split up! To be confirmed if any GC riders made the first split.
A 2nd split further back too!
24 riders finish in the first group with a 58 second gap awarded to all other riders.
No changes at the top of the GC. Still a Caja Rural 1-2.
Stepniak takes the Points lead.
Alarcon still leads the KOM with Kelly now 2nd.
Mader remains in the U25s lead.
Caja Rural still lead the Teams.
