We are in Mexico for the continental team time-trial challenge. There are two time checks on the course, first at the 13 km mark and at the top climb at 27 km. Beautiful weather today with a small breeze and we're ready with McCormick to start things off!
McCormick reach the first check point, we'll see how this time fares.
17'40''
Podium Ambition are next, 11'' of the current best pace.
17'51''
Glanbia are also slower, but only by 2''.
17'42''
Jura on the other hand are off to a slow start.
18'06''
Same can be said for Oktal Pharma, same early deficit.
18'06''
Defending champions BWT are on a mission. Best time by far!
17'24''
Project: Africa sit in 5th after the first time check.
17'56''
McCormick finished climbing and hit the descent. Have they kept up their strong pace?
40'38''
Podium Ambition have cut their gap to McCormick to 7''!
40'45''
Glanbia not faring too well on the climb. 17'' slower than 2nd place Podium.
41'02''
Jura already more than a minute behind McCormick.
41'53''
Oktal Pharma doing better now, but still 4th from 5 teams so far.
41'04''
Minions are the final team at the first check, not looking well. We have the whole ranking now.
18'32''
How about this? BWT have pretty much caught to BNZ at the time check. The latter are only ahead of Staffbase, meanwhile the defending champs have nearly doubled their lead over McCormick.
40'07''
McCormick are racing towards the finish line. Everything is pointing to 2nd place for them.
1h05'55''
Project: Africa pass Bianchi. They've dropped from 5th to 6th place.
41'43''
Podium Ambition finished 10 seconds behind McCormick. Really, really good day for them.
1h06'05''
Glanbia came into the finish in 3rd place, they really couldn't make up any time on Podium.
1h06'36''
Conversely Jura haven't had a good day here in Mexico. This time shows it.
1h07'53''
Oktal Pharma didn't start well, but improved in the middle. How did they finish? Not good, no chance to overtake Glanbia.
1h07'00''
All the times from the 2nd checkpoint.
Staffbase place last right now, but that's about what we expected from them.
1h09'01''
Here's an interesting picture. BNZ have kept up with BWT on this final section which to be fair is mostly downhill. BNZ place ahead of Jura which should please them, but we're most interested in BWT. Have they kept up their pace?
Of course they have! They've been on top all day long!
1h05'10''
Project: Africa have been consistent throughout the course. 6th place is where we thought they'll be.
1h07'08''
Bianchi never took this race too seriously. Can they beat Pas Normal to not finish last?
1h11'16''
Yes, Pas Normal finish last. Minions meanwhile were never at it and managed to finish just ahead of the two 6 man teams.
In the end this event is all about BWT Hyundai N Cycling they win it again and they never left it in any doubt. McCormick needed something special to do better than 2nd place. The slight surprise comes from Podium Ambition, true to their name they make the final podium spot.
