Olympia's Tour - Stage 2 Report

The first proper road stage of 3 and it's the first opportunity for the sprinters and their teams to deliver. They will have to keep the breakaway in check but there should be a combined effort to ensure this one is decided by the fast men.

The bookies favourites are as follows. They're all very evenly matched, and may are missing from this list, so we'll have to see what happens!

Despite the weather, we have hordes of spectators lining the street at the start as the riders look to provide early entertainment in the form of some attacks.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0001.jpg

We are 35km into the stage as the riders go through the first of 3 intermediate sprints and, despite numerous attempts, we don't have a settled breakaway. The sprint is won by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/taf.png Kaislavuo with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Kmieliauskas 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/t3a.png Kelly 3rd.

122km to go, 58km into the stage, and we finally have our break of the day. These 6 riders have a gap of 2'49. In here are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Hecht, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Kmieliauskas, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bia.png Chatarunga, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/stb.png Plowright, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/taf.png Kaislavuo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/t3a.png Kelly.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0003.jpg

Through the 2nd intermediate sprint and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Hecht takes maximum points ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/taf.png Kaislavuo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/t3a.png Kelly. 2'44 is now the gap after peaking at 3'16 earlier. 93km still remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0004.jpg

A long line of riders in the Peloton are supporting in the chase now as the gap goes below 2 minutes with 42km to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Caja Rural, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png BNZ-Superhero and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Oktal Pharma are sharing the workload.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0005.jpg

Positioning is key yet again as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/taf.png Kaislavuo wins the 3rd and final intermediate sprint ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bia.png Chatarunga and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Mkieliauskas. Gap is at 1'40 with 32km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0006.jpg

20km remaining, the gap is only 49 seconds. The Peloton now moving at quite a pace and already we have a line of sprinters at the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0007.jpg

We're all together with 14km to the finish. The earlier line of sprinters dispersing due to the hill the riders just went over.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0008.jpg

7km now as the line begins to form behind the wheel of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Wippert who only has 1 domestique in front of him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0009.jpg

With 3km remaining, it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Perera on the front with Wippert in behind. He is surely on the front a bit too early though! All of the big sprinters are in and amongst it here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0010.jpg

1.7km and this is the line of riders:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Perera
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Wippert
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Losch

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0011.jpg

800m to go and, for now, it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Wippert who leads pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Losch but they have plenty of riders coming from behind them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0012.jpg

600m and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Wippert still leads but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Rajovic is level and moving much quicker! Those further back such as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Prasad, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/anz.png Scully, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Keough and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Boivin are motoring but they have ground to make up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0013.jpg

200m for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Rajovic but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Prasad looks like he might pull through and take this one. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/anz.png Scully, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Keough and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Boivin also flying.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0014.jpg

And it's the American who came from deep to win it! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Luke Keough pips pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/anz.png Tom Scully on the line to win Stage 2!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0015.jpg

Too close to call further down but we have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/lec.png Boivin 3rd, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Prasad 4th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bns.png Rajovic has to settle for 5th with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/cct.png Guardini 6th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Stepniak is 7th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/caa.png Itami 8th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bee.png Boudat 9th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/bwt.png Losch rounding out the Top 10. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Wippert only finishes 12th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Reports/C2/Olympias/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0016.jpg

No gaps so no changes in the GC were pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Sterobo still leads.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/oph.png Sterobo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/mck.png Keough now share the lead in the Points.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/pns.png Price-Pejtersen maintains a 1 second lead in the U25s.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2022/Micros/jur.png Jura keep their 3 second lead in the Teams.
