This race is mostly flat with four ascents and descents of the Waseburg along the way. We have to join things on the final ascent of the Waseburg as it seems my screenshots only worked from then onwards.
A break went away early on but were caught not long after the first climb of the Waseburg - since there was a split in the pack with 23 riders going clear. But the split came back together on the 2nd climb some distance later.
Before the 3rd climb, Sulzberger, Giling and Kruijswijk attacked. Sulzberger attack was strongest and he went solo but all 3 were caught. They attacked again though and worked together this time. They hold a minutes gap on this final ascent of the Waseburg, with 16km to go.
There is potential for the pack to split up after this climb. But with Luke Rowe leading the way, that potential is gone. The Briton isnt great on the hills and sets a slow tempo
So, no splits, and the gap to the lead 3 increases by 30 seconds
It looks good for the lead 3, and knowing himself to be the weaker sprinter of them all
He gets a gap
But Giling closes it down as the sprint begins
The peleton arent far back either! Caethoven leads Corioni and Haedo
Sulzberger moves into the lead
Can Corioni or Haedo catch him in time?
Sulzberger stops sprinting! That wont help surely
He realises his mistake as the line draws ever closer
Wes Sulzberger wins the Vattenfalls Classic! Corioni 2nd, Haedo 3rd
