A group of 10 went clear but after the first climb, it was down to 5

Giacinti, Colom, Tonti, Sprick and Figueras. Colom won the firsty climb, Tonti the 2nd. But on that 2nd climb, Mayo, Serpa, Sanchez, Gomez Marchante, Rodriguez Oliver, Moreno and Ardila all attacked

Only Mayo and Rodriguez Oliver wanted to work though, so they were caught

No sooner is he caught then away again. Sanchez Gil cracking and dropping back caused a slight disruption, and Abal, Rasmussen and Marchante now have a gap

Infact, its fair to say that every single rider is having a hard time. They hit the red zone, fall back, recover, and get to the front again. Point proven by Rasmussen as he again gets a slight gap (albeit not for long) and again with Abal and Gomez Marchante

No sooner are they across, than they are dropped. Marchante alone again

Relief for the riders as they realise the finish is near

But he is falling back again as we enter the final kilometre

Having been at the front all the way, Gomez Marchante has had an amazing ride. No doubt he too, like everyone else, hit the red zone at some point (otherwise he would have had a much bigger gap) but he has ridden the most effectively, and wins the stage

The biggest loss of the day was that of Intxausti. Never able to recover from the puncture, this stage was a hammer blow to his hopes.
