Right, I had this idea about a development game. Similar to that of PCM Daily's management game, but instead of managing one whole team, you will take control of one rider, and his development through training. This is your chance to be a pro! I am aware (thanks Crue!) that this game is similar to that of another site. I was not aware of it when I came up with my own idea, so any similarities are merely coincidence.
Some rules, and information:
Monthly training programmes will be easy to fill in, and can be done for the entire year, or month by month.
You can join at any point, but will have obviously a lower development.
You can resign/retire as a rider, and being a career as a new one at any point.
Races will be run in a similar fashion to the Man-Game, ie a control rider or two.
All teams will be, for the first season, the first 18 teams chosen by members signing up.
You will have the choice of two teams, and will be slotted in where appropriate.
Max teams of 6 for the first season.
All extra spaces will be filled in by non-progression riders (ie domestiques).
Stats will not be available for viewing.
You can change teams at the end of a season. If there is space available.
No posts are to be made in the "race thread". Any that ARE made, will be deleted.
Questions may be PMed to myself, or may be written for all to see here.
Location of training can be changed at the end of a season. The hassle of moving mid season for riders would result in bad performance, and so is to be avoided at all costs.
The first season:
The first season will comprise of 18 teams, with a maximum of 6 riders per team. Any race which allows more than 6 riders will have added control riders.
Only continental races are available for racing in the first season, as it will be a test period.
As of yet, a scoring system is not in place, but obviously the aim for all riders would be to win the individual rankings, or World Championships.
Information about training, and starting up:
When filling in the excel spreadsheet, take into account some of the following information:
Place of birth gives your rider some starting stats, but does not make much of a difference in abilities after a month or two.
Location of training (ie where you live) affects your training greatly. Training in intervals in South Italy for example, would give more benefits that training in the South of the UK.
Likewise, training in climbing will not result in good training for cobbles.
No riders have potential's. As far as is concerned, all riders have the highest potential if trained correctly.
Adding YOUR input
Obviously, I don't want to put time and effort into making a game no-one will play, SO, if you feel there should be something different going on, then suggest it.
Any help on Asian/American training areas would be useful too. (ie what states have mountains/flat).
If you want to add new training areas, also message me with the location, and the kind of terrain available. I will try to accomodate as many as possible.

Starting Up.
First off, download THIS EXCEL SPREADSHEET
Fill it in, upload is somewhere, and send me the link to download.
Ask any questions in the space provided in the spreadsheet.
Fill in ALL THREE WORKBOOKS!
Training Tips - Location
Location is very important.
North France is supposed to be good for developing flat and cobble skills.
The centre of France produces some good fighting riders.
The south of France allows training in diverse uphill locations.
Northern Italy (mountains) is, of course, great for climbing.
Northern Italy (flats) is also good for sprinters.
Southern Italy has many hills.
The islands surrounding Italy develop some strong individuals who like to attack.
The Basque country is of course, famous for it's riders.
Central Spain has produced many a good sprinter.
Southern Spain could almost be considered to produce better flat sprinters.
Northern Germany is good for TTists.
Southern Germany produces some hard men. Good all round.
The Welsh and Scottish areas of the UK produce some "unique" individuals, good on short sharp climbs.
Southern UK has produced the likes of Wiggins and power riders.
Northern UK has produced riders like the Downing brothers.
Belgium produces some of the best cobble riders out there.
The Netherlands, reknowned for it's flat roads, allows great time trial skills to be developed.
The US (will be split up more some time soon...) produces some good time trialists, and all round abilities.
The Danes, also welcome sprinters and time trialists.
Russia is well known for fighting riders like Ignatiev, Brutt, and Rovny.
Australia is similar to the United Kingdom. Sprinters and time trialists come in abundance from here.
Portugal has some good talent, once in a while, due to it's diverse terrain. Mostly stage racers come from here though.
Ireland is well known for Whisky, and fighting.
Swiss riders produce some brilliant results on the flats, time trials and often on cobbles.
Luxembourg is a great place for riders like the Schleck brothers.
The Middle East and the old Eastern Bloc (also to be split further), produce some great climbing domestiques.
Types
A few tips to help out.
Endurance training, also known as winter training, helps develop the miles needed to race successfully.
Climbs do what they say on the tin. Acceleration also improves.
Intervals improve many aspects of fitness, not to mention short efforts.
Sprints are pretty self explanatory.
Time Trial... hmmm...
Gym. Weights sessions improve many aspects of physical fitness, but not bike related skills.
Cobbles... hmmm...
Overtraining results in BIG reductions in form. It's rumoured that one week resting per 3 weeks training is a good ratio.

Fill in as you would like to train, remembering that adequate rest is required for training to be as effective as possible. This is laid out in a different way to pre-season training. There is no box to fill in to spend days recovering. It is pre-calculated for you in the column "Days Spent Recovering".
Flat - perfect for training to be a lead-out man, or a breakaway specialist. Does what it says on the tin.
Climbs - training for the Alps? Then this is probably what you are looking for.
Intervals - What better for getting your body to cope with high levels of lactic acid than a 2minute interval, followed by rest, and then some more intervals! Often take place on hilly terrain.
Sprints - erm. Does this need explaining? Far more effective than sprint training in off season.
Time Trial - Again, exactly what it says it is. Again, more effective than winter training.
Gym - More power specific, so for small climber types it will do less good than for a flat power rider/classics rider.
Cobbles - Got a date with some Northern Cobblestones? Sign yourself up for some pre-race punishment.
Skills - Bad at bike control? Lose the pack on a downhill? Or just need to catch back up after a hill? Then work on your skills to become used to time trial positions, downhilling and moving through the field in those difficult finishes.

All riders are now good to go. Remember you can still join at any point, you just may have missed out on a month or two's training.
Progress:
All rider stats have been worked out, and all February's training has been completed for all riders. DB is nearly completed, the last few riders have to be added, as do the control riders and domestiques. Start lists have to be created, and then we are good to go. I'm away from my racing computer at the moment, so when I get back at the weekend I will have everything ready to go.

Is there going to be a Norwegian training location?
If there is, what type of rider would you be if you train there?
Edit: And the teams, are they the teams in the game? Like Rock Racing and Barloworld, or are the made up?

I can certainly include a Norwegian training location. Request it in sign-up and i shall include it.
Type of riders are based on the most successful current riders from those locations.
Teams are teams in game for this season. Keeping it simple for now, but the choice of changing names/kits/etc may be brought in.

talking about help for USA. Levi4Life will be better but IMO The west coast is a lot better for Stage Racers and East Coast will be flat Time Trialers. and possibly the mid USA is sprinters and TTs,

So far, I have had 6 people sign up, three of which did not fill in the second and third page of the spreadsheet. Make sure, if you do join, that you fill in all workbooks.

Can you upload the excel spreadsheet to another page? For example to the download section on this site? My school has blocked the link you left the excel spreadsheet paper in.. |
