It's the first day here in the Jelajah SKL. Who will lay down the early marker?
Oram is the best rider out on the course early on here and he sets an early time to beat of 4'13.
Warbasse looks up for this one as he matches the time of Oram but moves into provisional 1st.
Vanderpool matches both of these 2 with a 4'13 for provisional 3rd.
Penko also sets the same time of 4'13 but he moves into the hot seat!
Downey with a decent ride as he goes into 5th, + 2".
A surprisingly strong ride from Matthews who bumps Downey down 1 place and goes into 5th himself, + 2".
Markus Kopfauf is one of the pre-stage favourites but he struggles! His time only good enough for 5th, + 2".
Cruz with a very good ride as he matches the leaders time but is now 2nd.
Craddock can't quite match his team mate but he puts himself in a very strong GC position early on as he is 6th, + 2".
Chavanne not with the best ride of his life but he matches the leaders time and moves into 1st!
Boswell definitely isn't a favourite for the stage but he has GC aspirations. It's only 7 seconds lost today by him.
Kozhatayev loses 15 seconds. Not a great few minutes in the saddle.
Frame will be bitterly disappointed as he can only manage 29th, + 6".
Dzervus with a solid ride for 7th, + 1".
Serrano loses 24 seconds today which means quite a bit of time to make up for in the hills.
Aregger will have his sights set on the leaders jersey after the sprint stage and he loses 6 seconds which he won't be too unhappy about although he's capable of better.
Keough is another stage favourite and the last threat on the course. It's so close but no cigar for the American as he matches the time of Chavanne but is judged to be 4th.
So our stage winner here is Gabriel Chavanne who officially wins it by a single second. A surprising 2nd is Penko. It's then the Glanbia and McCormick show with Cruz taking the final step on the podium ahead of Keough. Oram is 5th, splitting up the Americans with Warbasse in 6th.
Chavanne is our first GC leader. He also leads the Points classification.
Kmieliauskas leads the U25s.
Glanbia, unsurprisingly, lead the Teams.
