Its the only hilly stage of the race - the only chance for anyone to prevent a Casper overall victory.
Dionne, Santoso and Haselbacher were the break - with Luke Rowe, Nauduzs and Barberi attacking once the original 3 held a 6 minute lead.
It didnt take Dionne long before he went solo, and set about picking up enough KoM points to not only take the jersey, but secure it too
For most of the stage it looked like Dionne would win the stage, but his large lead began to fall rapidly when Procycling hit the front of the peleton
Dionne was caught by Nauduzs with 20km to go - the Latvian having finally closed down what was a 6 minute gap - but the peleton are right behind them, catching them on the first of the 2 steep hills, with 15km to go
No attacks on this hill but the pack is now stretched out
Onto the 2nd hill, with 5.5km to go - Garate does attack
But despite being very steep, the hill is just too short, he cant get a gap. So it will be a sprint, and Haedo must surely be the favourite - he is that Slipstream rider just behind the relay train
Procycling continue to lead the peleton - and theres been a split in the peleton!! 45 men have a gap on the rest
Casper has missed out! Although lets be honest, he should be able to close the gap in the sprint
Talking about the sprint, here it goes! British national champion Charly Wegelius leads the way
His teammate Adam Hansen passes him - who is there to challenge him?
Mirko Lorenzetto, thats who! The Italian hasnt had a particularly great year but he is a strong sprinter and whisks past Hansen
Victory for Lorenzetto! Pearl Jam take 2nd and 3rd with Vitoria and Maaskant
Hansen took 4th and as youll be able to see in the picture, Casper easily closed down the gap and things were so stretched that in the end the first 91 riders were given the same time.
