The second heat is headlined by the USA team, who surely can qualify with both Dombrowski and Phinney riding together, never mind Eastman too.
Estonia, Norway, Russia, Portugal, Ukraine and Poland are the 6 leading contenders for the other 5 places.
The second band of nations with more outside hopes are Sweden, Costa Rica, Bolivia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Uganda, Belarus and Thailand.
Thailand with the first attack! It's Mano, with Wisniowski and Roman for Poland and Serbia
No early success.
The next promising move was spearheaded by Guatemala, Sam, along with the stronger climbers of Topchanyuk, Novikov and Laengen
But despite many ongoing attack attempts, only one rider is clear at the start of the first Fuji climb - Wisniowski.
Naturally that didn't last, nor did other attempts over the 2 laps of the Fuji circuit,
Topchanyuk, Gebremedhin, Roman and Koshevoy over the top of the first ascent.
Figueredo and Sirironnachai on the second ascent.
Onto Mikuni Pass then, with Kuss and Warbasse in charge for USA
Reduced to 40 riders by the top of Mikuni, but back up to more than 70 over the top.
The 2nd Mikuni Pass then, and first we see a move from an outsider - Bolivia, Campero
This is soon dwarfed, as Phinney attacks!
Kwiatkowski, Taaramae and Padun start to work away in response - until Dombrowski gets itchy feet and joins them
Kwiatkowski then cracks, and finds himself back in the next group with teammate Warchol, also Faglum Karlsson, Reis, Galta and Kritskiy. Brenes had been the leading Costa Rican but he is now falling back.
Gaps over the top.
Phinney
+ 1'11: Dombrowski/Taaramae/Padun
+ 2'01: Chasing Group
+ 3'38: The next group, which features Pomoshnikov, Kuss, Karnulin, Warbasse, Ratiy, Rodrigues, Topchanyuk, Majka, all teammates of those ahead, plus Croatia's Potocki and Laos' Destribois.
Warchol puts his head down on the smaller hill before the descent, and bridges the gap!
Meanwhile the others are caught from behind!
As this group approaches the finish, with 4 nations ahead, there's 2 spaces left for Portugal, Croatia, Sweden, Russia, and Norway to fight over.
Phinney wins the race!
The sprint for 6th is kicking off, led by Reis
Dombrowski makes it a USA 1-2, with Warchol a fine 3rd. Taaramae 4th and despite struggling at the finish, Padun is safely 5th.
Fresher for the finish, Kwiatkowski and Majka come through for 6th and 7th
Reis secures a spot for Portugal, finishing 8th. Topchanyuk takes 9th, and Kuss is a notable 10th. A strong individual result despite having worked on the front earlier - there's no sign of Eastman today.
One qualifying spot remaining - and it's a close one.
Faglum Karlsson takes it for Sweden! Russia eliminated, Norway won't be able to defend Boasson Hagen's Olympic crown, and Croatia came so close to being the surprise package.
Next best nations, Koshevoy beating out Stancu for 16th.
Campero and Borisavljevic take Top 20 finishes, while Schleck is just outside for Uganda. Amador ended up as best Costa Rican, for 26th, while Destribois faded towards the end and finishes 28th.
