Good evening to all and welcome to the first ever edition of the Continental Division Songfestival!
Representatives from all over the world and beyond took a look at the eighteen continental teams, and decided to rank all of them Eurovision-style in five different disciplines: climbing/hills/time trials/sprints and cobbles)
The representatives went on to give out the following points: 12-10-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. 12 points were awarded to the team they rated the highest in that discipline, 10 points to the second best in their opinion, etc.
Each representative was free to interpret anything the way they wanted. Looking at team strength or not, looking at secondary abilities (for example tt for a climber or sprint for a cobbler), everything was up to them.
Let's have a quick overview of the five representatives, before heading onto our first category soon. First of all we needed someone with a lot of experience in MG to make this prediction look very professional. We think we can say we accomplished that by reeling in a very big Greek fish in SotD. The manager of Elco - Abea has been selected by Greece to give out their points. Another PT manager, albeit with a lot less experience, is me. I am therefore honoured to represent Mexico.
In addition to that we have three top PCT managers also giving their points away. Next to Europe and the American continent Africa will also be represented now, as Bralirwa's manager cunego59 has been selected by the Rwandan government to give out their points. To make it all even more exotic, Asia is also represented in the CDS, with Eden95 being the superstar giving away the Indonesian points. The festival couldn't take place without the man with the most Eurovision puns and references though, meaning Marcovdw is also here to give out his points. In an attempt to make the CDS not just international, but also hopefully extraterrestrial, he will be sending out his points representing the moon.

Big thumps up for your idea, I appreciate every ESC-related (and of course highly scientific and reliable) approach to MG, cycling, sports or anything else (inclouding the actual ESC). But though I'm surely glad you've included the moon (although mars would have been more appropriate), I'm kind of disappointed there's no one representing Australia, who are indeed a keen contestant in ESC

And the twelve points go to... several teams. Jura persuaded three out of five representatives to give them twelve points, resulting in being the highest scoring team of the first round of points. With Stüssi possibly being the best stage racer and Masnada and Mäder as super domestiques or being used as leaders theirself, it's very understandable to see why.
McCormick and Tryg also succeeded in scoring twelve points once. The American team has two strong leaders in Warbasse and Kuss with Revard as top domestique, whereas Tryg has the very interesting Schlegel riding for them. Mccormick with a lot of consistency then, as they score ten points three times. Air New Zealand also succeeds in scoring a ten-pointer, as the new team has three 77+ climbers, with Fabbro being the biggest name.
Caja Rural gets two podium spots as well here, thanks to the presence of the old but not rotten Alarcon. Ablenado could be a great domestique for him, while also performing on his own. Hyundai also manages to score eight points once, as they will be Kozhatayev and the very versatile riders of Brändle, Pernsteiner and Ahmad Zamri.
Other teams scoring points in this discipline are BNZ (Vasyliv, Schleck and Schultz), Bordeaux (Itturia and Rochas), Glanbia (Talansky and Mannion), Pas Normal (Aru and Ratiy), Le Creuset (Henao and possibly Teuns) and Tafjord (Hoem and Blikra)

I love the concept! Such a fun way to shine a light on the CT and do something different.
If this was an actualy song contest obviously Podium Ambition would be bringing some heavy fire power with some of the all-time greats in Pop, Hip Hop, RnB, Reggae, Latin, Calypso and beyond.
As an actualy ranking of skill, genuinely surprised if we score 1pt!

Good to build up a small lead, which we'll hopefully extend after hills and TTs, as in cobbles and probably sprints as well it'll be "Switzerland: Zero points"

Whats the point in this when there is no cypriotic ct team to get 12 points from greece in every category?

Nah, cool way to give an overview over the different terrains. Adding the text to the points is very crucial to the understanding for someone like me who has no clue who leads which team in ct.

I hope we'll capture a lot of points in the hilly segment, as well as in the sprints.

Happy to be a part of this, thanks for the initiative Nemo That was fairly consistent between voters, with just a total of 12 different teams in the respective Top 10s, even if some placings are quite different. I'm curious if that diverges more over the other terrains.

Btw, given the amount of TTT-heavy stage races in C2, I could very well see The Moon being the most accurate prediction for Glanbia in terms of climbing points Don't know what parameters all of those selectors took into account for each category - whether those stage races are rather covered by the TT points - but I would definitely love to get some more detailed comments by them (if they want to, obviously)

I didn't take a look at the CT calendar much, so I went by pure climbing strength. My criterium was estimated scoring potential in mountain races (again without taking any TT strength into account), so I slightly prioritized top end strength over depth, but I'm not sure if I was consistent with that (see BNZ for instance).
I also valued more well-rounded climbers more highly than high MO guys with low hill, res etc., which is why Caja Rural (Alarcon, Ablenado) and Air New Zealand (Costagli, Diaz) are comparatively low on my list. It also shows again with me placing BNZ as high as 4th for Vasyliv/Schleck/Schultz, which looking at it now might be a bit extreme, but I'll stand by it I guess. And Alarcon certainly has the potential to prove me wrong, too.
In general though, my process wasn't very analytical or anything. I just sorted by mountain stat and team and then scrolled up and down the DB file and made fairly quick decisions on which is the next best team. That's pretty much how I did it with the other terrains, too, iirc.

The sprinters field in the Continental Tour is usually quite close, and this year is no different. Our experts have given points to fifteen out of eighteen teams, and those who did not score anything still have a competent sprinter (BWT Hyundai with Losch, Le Creuset with Boivin and Podium Ambition with Major).
The douze points were split between two teams. Colombini scores three top scores in this section thanks to Lahcen Saber, in addition to a second and fourth place. The Moon and Mexico instead put Tryg's duet of Kanter and Krieger at the top, with the other spokespeople putting them in the top three as well. In the end, Colombini edges out Tryg by one point.
A distant third is Oktal Pharma with two runner-up positions, some juries liking the acceleration of Perera and Wippert more than others. Air New Zealand (Scully) does not pick up any top three, but a bunch of seven- and six-pointers takes them to fourth tied with Tafjord Kraft (Bertilsson), where the juries are even more split on. Greece and Indonesia put them third, but Mexico omits them completely.
McCormick picks up points from everyone, perhaps because Keough can aim at yellow jerseys in prologues as well. Pas Normal Studios (Matthews and Prasad) receives eight points from The Moon and seven from Greece, but the love is not universal. Greece joins Mexico and Indonesia in giving five points to Bonduelle (Boudat), while half of BNZ's (Nizzolo) points comes from Rwanda.
Glanbia (Bennett and Nelson) failed to gain much traction with the voters but took the odd point, while Bordeaux Métropole (Guerao) only left an impression with the Greek jury. Despite being one of their weaker disciplines, Aregger and Stepniak added six points to Jura's tally. Bianchi (Gibbons) received two points from the Moon and Indonesia each. The former is the only contributor to Staffbase's (Willwohl) total of three, while Mexico saves Caja Rural (Guardini) from the dreaded nul points.

I love the style of this preview! I think that third-best in the mountains is probably accurate for us, although probably didn't expect to be so far behind our Swiss & American friends... perhaps Mr Moonman Marco considered Schlegel more of a puncheur than a climber? I think that Nemo probably overrates us though, Schlegel is very similar to Mas but will be riding against a stronger field with less support (especially because Zimmermann is targeting C1 U25 jerseys).
As for sprinters, I can't deny that Saber is the best of this years bunch, but I can only hope that the somewhat incoherent results that PCM's sprint AI provides us will work in our favour here. Max Kanter will be targetting sprinter's classics and stage races, and should benefit from the ability to pick up U25 points. Krieger will be seeking out green jerseys in situations where bumpy days rule the sprinters out of GC contention. I am slightly surprised by how little approval Luke Keough has achieved, that solid prologue stat has resulted in some very nice points totals over the past few years.
We'll see how many more points we can muster together given that most of our investment has been covered in these first few categories...

With no more mandatory cobbled races on the calendar, some teams decided to care even less about them than they used to. This resulted into six out of eighteen teams not getting any points in this category. Let's have a look at the points given out by our international judges.

And the winner is... Colombini! Lampaert, Saber and strong domestique De Bondt ensured them twelve points from Greece and Mexico, as well as ten points from the other three judges. BWT Hyundai is a close second here. Fenn, Richardson and Paprstka made sure Rwanda and the Moon gave them twelve points as well.
The other team receiving a douze points is Tafjord Kraft. Indonesia really likes what Breen has to offer, together with Finnish champion Kaislavuo as his most important domestique. In the final ranking they don't rank third though, as that honour goes to Air New Zealand. Scoring eight and seven points very consistently thanks to guys such as Puccio, Nolf and Naesen. Can they become the CT's Crabbe of 2022?
Two other new teams then tied for fifth, as Caja Rural has the dangerous trio of Declerq, Domene and Sinkeldam, whereas Bianchi is counting on the likes of Chatarunga, Hnik and Manakov. Pas Normal proved to be a good team on the cobbles last year with Vanmarcke as their main guy, and aim to keep that status with the Belgian hitting another decline. By his side we will see Taubel and Kristoff, with the former possible being the main guy from now on.
BNZ and Bordeaux also managed scoring more than ten points in this round. The Kiwis have an interesting leader in Orue, assisted by the Mongolians Erdenesuren and Batmunkh. Bordeaux on the other hand will be hoping for a good year of leader Insausti, who has Frenchie Sarreau as his most important domestique. Minor points are also scored by Bonduelle (Merlier), Staffbase (Vermeersch) and Podium Ambition (Matthews).
