Criterium Stages
SportingNonsense
Ive been trying to make a few criterium races using the stage editor but every single time I have the same problem.

When drawing the roads, it doesnt matter how close they are to each other or how far away they are, when the stage is rendered the roads never join up.

Have you tried laying down some roads yet? Also what does the code look like? Not that you'd have made this mistake, but, is there a minimum of 3 circuit loops in the code?

How dya mean by laying down roads - isnt that what Ive already done?

And yes, there are more than 3 loops of the circuit

NO, you have to give the roads a type, national, departmentale etc. If you haven't done that, you get this problem. I post here a link of one of my criterium stages and you can see how it works

By laying down roads I mean actually putting the roads in. All you've done so far is put in some waypoints - the route the race will take. Now you need to fill over the course with roads. 2 Roads are probably best. Start a road before the first waypoint, then click on the waypoint, and then the last waypoint that the road will go to. Click yes on the pop up (if there is one) and then click outside the circuit to let the road go somewhere. Start another road (best to select a different tool, then go back to the road one) and click on the last waypoint you finished the other road off on. Then click again on the last point you want that road to run to, and finish off by clicking outside the circuit again to let the road go somewhere.
Maybe if you don't understand a word I've just said, send me a PM for my msn addr. and hopefully I could explain a little bit better.

Tried to do some Varese 08 WC criterium stage with impish's google maps tool. For any reason I have the same problem like Sporting Nonsense a while ago.

I could manage to see a criterium route in the stage editors TOP WINDOW but when I add the roads to it then I can't manage to get the criterium route closed: If I want to add a road between the last waypoint and waypoint 1 (the start of the criterium) it doesnt closes the circuit - the road goes "backwards" but doesnt creates a direct connection between the last waypoint and waypoint 1...

Unfortunately Jaaps criterium stages (mentioned above) are gone already... may this would help me for finding a solution but I had also a look in the code of some other criterium stages and I still have absolutely no idea what my problem is...

May someone could risk a short view:

https://rapidshare...e.xml.html (the code without added roads)
https://rapidshare...e.xml.html (here I tried to add roads... and did a road between the last waypoint and waypoint 1 with the WITHOUT ADDING WAYPOINTS option... the only method I could figure out to get a road between those two waypoints...)

Thanks for your help, boys and girls.

I found a solution (for me). The starting road (ie the one which contains waypoint 1, and usually the ending waypoint) needs to be a local road (ie not national). Also you should lay the roads one waypoint at a time.

Give that a try.

Pardon... does that mean the following: If I have 15 waypoints (for example) then I need 15 roads?

road 1 between waypoint 1 and waypoint 2
road 2 between waypoint 2 and waypoint 3
...
road 15 between waypoint 15 and waypoint 1
?

Is it really that "complicated" (compared to other stages) to create a criterium?

No. Have one road for the last waypoint, the first and the second. Try this.

It's not that complicated if you now how to do it.

Thanks alot for your help, guys. Got it now.

Another main problem was the following limitation of impish's GPS Kicker V0.9. Impish wrote about that:

Please be patience about (...) small limitations in this version.
*) Collision query isnt included (that means that its possible you have bad sections during close streets - but can be corrected manualy)

After fixing that as well my criterium started working...
