Team Milram Again!!!
ringo182
here we go again, i decided to have another go at pcm08 today and after a short poll on the mb i've ended up with milram again. decided to start a new story as there aren't too many going atm so maybe i'll get a few readers this time round.

as expected the squad is very weak, it's basically a continental team with Petacchi, so my aim for this season will be to survive till next season when i'll hopefully be able to strengthen the squad. i am going to try to keep the hub of german/italian riders but i'm not going to turn down the chance to sign someone who will drastically improve the team. i'm also keen to turn the team into one that can challenge for stage races instead of just stages, but for this season i think stages is the best i can hope for. here is what i'm working with:
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0078-2.jpg

at least the sponsors seem to know the weaknesses and one strength of the team and they have set us some ,hopefully, achievable goals. it's just a shame you don't get pro-tour points for winning points competitions.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0077-2.jpg

i don't have too many stars in the squad but here is a run down of some of my better riders.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0079-2.jpg
My only real star and hope of staying up. He will be aiming for the Milan-San Remo before going for stages all season. He will be key to us achieving the goals.

i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0080-2.jpg
A living legend but is on the wrong side of 35! he will try to pick up points in the cobbled classics but will most likely be outclassed. Like Petacchi will go for stages and will be a useful lead out man for the Italian.

i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0081-2.jpg
Young Ukranian who's good on the hills and tt's so could do something in the shorter stage races. his fighter stat will make him a valuble domestique.

i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0082-2.jpg
Young Italian and possible successor to Petacchi. Stilll has some way to go but might get a few stages this year in the smaller races.

i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0083-1.jpg
Young tester who's ability to tt could stand him in good stead for short, flat stage races and his strength will make him a valuble aid for the sprinters in the last few miles.

i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0084-2.jpg
Good young all rounder who could develop into a good stage racer. This season he will be gaining experience and may get a few top tens in the shorter stage races.

so there you are. as usual i will be playing on hard using no editing or any other 'cheats'. wish me luck:lol:

Damn , i always thought it's impossible at hard or extreme to achieve something with milram in the 1st season with just petta or in the uptaded DB's without petta just Zabel...

Made my first signing of the season.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0085-1.jpg
He fills all my criteria of being Italian and move the team away from an all out sprint team. Good in the mountains so will hopefully be able to do something in the shorter stage races.

13th January

Australian Championships

Bret Lancaster was our sole representative and it would be a good race for me to get back into pcm 08 after playing 07 for the last couple of months. He went with the break and looked strong with a daily rating of +5 but when the big guns flexed there muscles he was forced to settle for a comfortable bunch finish. He's looking in good early season shape for the Tour Down Under though. Gerrans won the champs in a 4 man group with Evans, O'Grady and Rogers.

I really like the start, hope it will last for a long timeSmile

Good start, and a good signing with CarusoGrin

With a mountain camp he could maybe do a top 15 in the Giro, or at least peform well in the smaller italian tours.

Good stuff, Ringo.

Like the goals as well - very realistic - and very achievable for Milram, I would say.

When is the next update Ringo182?Smile

Is Petacchi and Zabel going to race in Australia and Quatar?

seems to me like Terpstra and older of Velits bros are way underrated, but doesnt matter anyway if Peta is in Milram instead of LPR, i think. the less real is DB the less interesting is this story for me, but i can still apperciate your effort mate, keep up good work Smile

Bosskardo
Don't make your team into a stage race team, csc and astana are for these kind of stories. I'd like if you keep your team a sprinters and cobble specialists one with perhaps 1 or 2 stage racers so that they don't have much support going for general places.

bosskardo: well i will try to keep the sprint train going but it just gets boring going for flat stages and not having a chance on the hilly/mountain stages. my team might as well not turn up at most pro-tour races cause we don't stand a chance. i'm not going to turn us into an out and out grand tour team but i would like to at least compete.

obukkake: i have thought about removing petacchi from my team after the milan-san-remo but i don't want to start messing with the db and risk messing up the story. this is the db i've got and i'm going to stick with it until a new one comes out.

goldberger: next update hopefully tomorrow night after i've finished work. Petacchi and Zabel will both be at home with thier feet up for the whole of january and feb with their season debut at the tour du var. Rigotto will be my man in australia and my qatar team will be young and inexperianced cause it doesn't mean anything really.

Tour Down Under

the first race of my season see's me sending a relitively young team dpwn under. Elia Rigotto will be our sprinter been suppoerted by Velo, Lancaster and Ongarato. The other four riders are all there for the experience.

Squad: Rigotto, Barla, Knees, Kux, Lancaster, Ongarato, Sabatini, Velo

Stage 1

the tour starts as it means to go on with a flat stage. nothing too testing for the riders and a sprint finish is the almost inevitable finish. as expected a break goes away, stays out all day and then gets reeled in at the end. Rigotto, isn't having the best of days but as our only real sprinter he is led out by velo. however a combination of poor early season fitness and some quality sprinters means that he fails to make an impression. The sprint is contested by Benatti and Boonen who will dominate the first 3 stages of the tour.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0087-2.jpg
Benatti leads the peleton home on stage 1

Rigotto finishes a disserpointing 19th well out of the running. I don't think we'll be making much of an impression during this tour.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0088-2.jpg

Stage 2

Another stage that will end in a sprint. After the first intermidiate sprint a group of over 20, including Lancaster go away but this group is cleary to big to be left to ride away so the pack chases them down. As the group is caught a couple of riders make the most of the slowed pace to attack and young Luca Barla goes with them. The trio stay away but aren'ty allowed to build up any significant lead.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0090-2.jpg
Luca Barla does his fair share in the break

Once again Rigotto isn't on a good day but once again he is led out. The sprint is won by Boonen who takes revenge on Benatti for the previous day. Rigotto does slightly better but is still a long way off the pace.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0089-2.jpg
Boonen powers his way to victory and the overall lead

Boonen and Benatti have a small advantage over the rest because of the time bonuses.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0091-2.jpg

Stage 3

More of the same on stage 3 with the race coming down to another sprint. This time i decided to save Rigotto for another day because he still isn't in any kind of form. My team coast into the finish as once again Boonen and Benatti fight out for the win. They've been a cut above so far this week.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0092-2.jpg
win number 2 for Boonen

i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0093-2.jpg

Boonen and Benatti have dominated the first 3 stages and unless someone can make a breakaway stick it seems unlikely that anyone will catch them.

Stage 4

As expected, break went away, break caught, Boonen and Benatti contest the sprint. Only this time McEwen managed to get himself between them and take second. Rigotto was led out by Velo again but rarther worrying couldn't get past his lead out man. While Velo tt'd his way to 13th, Rigotto had to settle for a dissapointing 16th.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0096-2.jpg
Boonen has a slight off day and is helpless to stop Benatti levelling up the score at 2-2

My team is obviously short of fitness and form at this ponit of the season. Apart from lancaster having +4 on stage 2 our highest daily rating has been +1 and Rigotto hasn't got past 0 yet. With stages running out it looks unlikely that we'll get our first pro-tour points of the year but it would be nice to get a top 10 placing for a bit of confidence and moral for the team.

Maybe you should try leading out with Rigotto and have Velo as your main sprinter for the last stages? Either way you will probably score a lot of pro tour points in march with Peta and ZabelSmile

ringo182
yeah, wasn't expecting too much from Rigotto at this stage of the season. my seaon will really start in march when i'll try to pick up wins in the Paris-Nice, Tirreno-Adriatico and the Milan-San Remo.

ringo182
Stage 5

Out of all the stages of the tour this one is the most likely to allow a break to stay away. After the initial break is reeled in early on i send Ongarato into the next break that goes and it manages to stay away.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0098-2.jpg
Ongarato looking comfortable in the break

As the break nears the main climb of the stage the peleton is breathing down there necks and on the foot of the hill a group of riders attack from the peleton and pass Ongarato'd break. Benatti and Boonen are looking twitchy. If they can get over this climb they are garanteed the win. Benatti is obviously feeling good as he also attacks just as the hill kicks up. Boonen decides he can't let him go and along with Hincapie and Velo they give chase.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0099-2.jpg
Velo counters Boonen and Benatti's move

Now there are 16 riders ahead of the main bunch but as Flecha takes the KOM competition the peleton is back on level terms.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0100-2.jpg
Flecha takes the points

At the top of the hill a group of riders move away from the peleton led by Joaquin Rodriguez's attack. A few of the riders can't keep up with the pace and in the end a group of 5 is formed with a few single riders trailing back to the peleton. The peleton has split into two large groups with Velo and Rigotto making it into the first group.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0101-2.jpg
The 5 leaders work together to stay away

The 5 stay away till the end and sprint it out for the win. The win goes to Carlos Barredo of Quickstep with Fedrigo 2nd and Sutherland 3rd.
i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg273/ringo182/PCM0102-2.jpg
Barredo takes the 3rd win of the tour for Quickstep

Dissapointingly for us Bouygues Telecom manage to take second in the stage and will now most likely get a top 10 placing overall. I see tham as one of my main rivals in the fight to stay up so this isn't the best of starts for us. There's still a long way to go though.
