i'm playing a career with plowman craven using the pcmdaily 2008 database. at first it was working perfectly but now i've got to the tour of the resevoir in march and the game has started to stutter when i play 3d races.
i haven't changed any of the settings and i've even deleted some other games off my laptop to try to get it to work.
does anyone know the reason and what i can do to stop it?
cheers |

Maybe try a disk defrag, or cleanup. Get rid of some crap you don't need and play it in a place where there is a cool flow of air getting to your computer. I gave my computer a good dusting the other week and it ran much better. |

Try turning off anti virus programs, fire walls, extra programs running in the background, as well as run a defragment on your hard drives. All of those should increase available computer memory and improve speed of play. Also try changing settings in game by lowering graphics etc.

If you dont have much ram you can probably only run PCM alone. there isnt much point of running loads of programs while playing a game anyway. |

cheers.
i don't run any other programs while playing so that isn't an issue.
my laptop isn't connected to the internet so there are no anti-virus or firewall programs running so that also isn't an issue.
i've played longer and more detailed careers before so the spec of my laptop also shouldn't be an issue.
how do i defrag my hard drive/disk? maybe theres a bit too much stuff clutering up my laptop which is slowing it down. |

I think its in System tools in the normal start menu. If its a laptop it might be getting over heated while you play. Play the game in a place where there is good air flow IE on a table or something. But i reackon that running a Defrag is your best option. Howmany save games do you have on the game also. Good idea to get rid of ones you don't need any more. |

well i don't think it's overheating because i've restarted the stage several times using different settings to see if it goes any quicker. so far nothing has worked. i play on a table so there is plenty of air-flow to the underside of the laptop.
i also deleted all other saved games before i started this career so that also isn't an issue.
i'll have a look at defraging it tonight.

In my experience, you may be experiencing a naff stage. I found that in the TTT of the tour of medeterainian (spelling i know...) the game was so jerky it was nigh on unplayable. Not a problem for me as i sim most tt's anyway. But another choice is to make a copy of your save game (backup - which you should do occasionally anyway) and then try and just sim that one stage. See if the next one is better. Some times a stage just doesn't like your computer and vice versa.

In fact, i think it is that case, because the tour of the resevoir has so much water in the middle of the stage. So the choice is:
sim the race
suffer with the stuttery play
try and change the camera angle to see if that helps (hold alt and click and move your left mouse button)
OR
find the tour of the resevoir stage file (Crogram files/cyanide/PCM07/cm_stages/tour of the resevoir.xml), open it with notepad.
find the lines which are between <river> and </river>, delete all lines between, save the xml.
That will get rid of the water and speed the gameplay up.
MAKE A BACK UP OF THAT FILE BEFORE YOU CHANGE IT.
Just to make this clear, the race will appear without water, but it will be playable.

yeah, i was thinkin it might just be that stage and simming it had crossed my mind. but Plowman Craven have so few races as it is i don't really want to be simming any really.
might try deleting the water.

thanks stijn, tried it but nothing happened.
rjc, i've opened the stage file but there is no river lines, only lots of sea lines. i'm guessing i've got to delete those?
so what exactly do i have to delete? |

thanks for the help guys.
decided to sim it in the end which led to a very realistic result of one bloke finishing 27 seconds ahead of the peleton which included every single other rider
johnny bellis finished 19th, i hate simmed results |

Sea lines yes. If you just delete everything between the starting line :
<sea>
and the ending
</sea>
it will solve your problem.
Trust me, go back to your backup and do it! then go and win the race
