Five riders separate themselves from the pack on the second to last climb: Heymes, Geniets, Schleck, Stoltz and Thill. It’s surprising that Petelin is not here, he’s chasing with Pons some 45 seconds behind.
Pons brings them back with just under 5km to go …
… and Petelin immediately attacks!
That doesn’t go anywhere, then a bit later it’s Geniets who gets a gap to the rest.
Pons joins him under the flamme rouge, these are not the guys we expected to fight for the win. Can the favorites counter?
Pons draws clear at the front, Heymes tries to catch up.
But it’s all too late. A big surprise, Pons wins the Luxembourgian title!

Luxembourgian Championships - ITT
We should see an exciting duel between Heymes and Thill - unless Pons can pull off another upset?
He can’t. Despite the potential for more, he only scores a fifth place here.
After a disappointment in the road race, Schleck redeems himself with a bronze medal in what might very well be the legend’s final race of his career.
The race for the win is as close as we’d expected it. At the second checkpoint, Heymes trails Thill by just 13 seconds …
… but on the final stretch, Thill can almost double that and win the championship by 25 seconds.
