Will a puncheur win this one, or is one of the punchy climbers able to surprise with a strong final kick? Let’s find out.
A few unknown local riders tried their luck in the breakaway, but never got more than a minute. With 22 km left it’s McCormick controlling the race with strong riders such as Granigan and Keough.
The constant up and down and the sudden bursts of flat power by those two means several interesting names for a top-10 get dropped! We’re on the penultimate hill as Boswell can’t control himself any longer, he attacks with 10,5 km to go!
He can’t get away though, and quickly realizes he need to hold his legs still. Onto the final hill now, with Haga in the lead and other interesting names around the first positions being Boswell, Keough, Phinney, Van Garderen and Eastman!
The Sauber rider the first to launch! 500 metres left as he is still in the lead, with right behind him Boswell, Phinney and Selander!
The Minion coming through the middle with 200 metres to go, but it looks like Van Garderen has timed this one correctly!
Yes he did! Van Garderen wins the American title ahead of Boswell and Phinney!

Time Trial
Well, to be honest, there’s only one favourite here, and we can’t see anyone beating him.
So far, Tour of America stage winner Cruz seems to be the best of the rest. His time is 1h05’55” with Rosskopf currently second at 36 seconds.
Powless is three seconds faster! Only top favourite Phinney to come in now.
The American is showing off with his world champion jersey, but rightfully so! He is exactly two minutes faster than Powless and wins the American time trial championship!
