Welcome to all for the Belgian cobbled national championship! Many riders think they can win it today, with Stallaert maybe being the big favourite, having two reliable domestiques as well.
Lierse and Aegon worked together to quickly catch a not so dangerous break of eleven lesser known riders. We hit the cobbles with 30 km to go, and it’s De Gendt, Vanspeybrouck and Van Keirsbulck at the front of the peloton.
Only around thirty riders make it together over that first hard cobbled sector, and Eeckhout’s bad positioning means he has missed the boat! De Bie attacks just before the penultimate cobbled sector then, behind him two Xero riders Vermeersch and Meurisse try to join him, together with Philipsen! A bit further behind is Reynders, and at 55” of the race lead is the peloton led by Lampaert!
Philipsen leaves the others behind him on the cobbled sector, as Meurisse suffered a puncture! Only nineteen others able to follow Bralirwa domestique Lampaert, as Van Hooydonck also suffers a puncture and is very likely out of contention for the win!
Naesen attacking now and Van Asbroeck following him! They join solo leader Philipsen with 12,5 km to go, as in the peloton of 20 behind them it is Meeus trying to close the 25” gap!
Lampaert closes the gap before the final cobbled sector, but there is De Bie again, strong race by him! Naesen and Van Asbroeck also trying to get away again!
But with 7 km to go it’s Vanspeybrouck who leaves everyone behind on the cobbles! No more domestiques in the group behind him, is this it?!
Big move by Stallaert, joining our race leader near the end of the cobbled sector and immediately dropping him as well! 5 km to go and in the group of favourites of twelve it is now Vanbilsen setting the pace, trying to catch the Bralirwa rider still!
Vanbilsen and Baugnies join Vanspeybrouck with 2 km to go, but the gap to bridge is still 15”. Is Stallaert the new national champion from Belgium?!
Yes! He finishes of a superb season with a superb victory!
A strong sprint out of the group of favourites sees Merlier win silver ahead of Theuns.

Belgian National Championship - Time Trial
Campenaerts and Frison the favourites to win the Belgian ITT. Or is someone able to surprise them?
Vandousselaere is a teammate of Victor and is an early starter, which might affect his time positively. His time is 1h04’15”.
Jallays tries his best, but with a time of 1h04’45” is unable to beat Vandousselaere. Van Moer with a bad day and currently only 7th at 1’18”.
Will it be another year in the Belgian jersey for Frison?! He’s more than a minute faster than anyone else, but we still have Campenaerts to come of course!
The Crabbe rider clearly faster! Almost 50” better than Frison, Campenaerts is the new Belgian time trial champion!
