Martins, Murphy, Reckweg, Dviri, Dowsett, Medici and Mourey are the breakaway
Incredibly, the lead just grew and grew. Its peak was at18 minutes - with 50km remaining! Theres no way they will be caught. The only action in the peleton was that Ivan Rovny crashed on his own accord, and abandoned the race.
And on the last of the days major hills, Alex Dowsett heaps on the pressure
He succeeds in dropping the groups 3 strongest sprinters: Murphy, Reckweg and Martins
When the peleton eventually made it to that last hill, there was also some action. There were no attacks, but Efimkin and Wegmann managed to get away. For a moment, Froome had tried to follow them, but then was caught as the other 2 built a useful gap
Wegmann would make an attempt to get rid of Efimkin on the flat though
While Hagen tried to bridge across to them
But Efimkin re-caught Wegmann, and Hagen was caught by the peleton.
Up front with now 10km to go, it should be a fascinating finish. Dowsett, Dviri and Mourey all have 63 sprint, Medici has 51.
Knowing this, Matias Medici risks everything on setting a tough pace
Mourey is gone, and he looks to have gapped Dowsett and Dviri
Dowsett gets back up to him though
So it is advantage to the Briton
Dowsett moves into the lead but Dviri and Mourey have somehow managed to catch up again!
Mourey is flying now!
Dowsett falters as both Medici and Mourey close in
Unbelievably, Matias Medici wins!
A dejected Dowsett knows he could have done better, taking 2nd ahead of Mourey.
The main favourites for the race will have to battle for 8th at best. But Mori, Proni and Froome are all out of the running due to a crash
Wegmann and Efimken had retained their gap. It should have been an easy 8th for Wegmann but as has happened on numerous occasions this season, he cracked in the final kilomete, allowing an easy 8th for Efimkin
Dani Moreno took 10th ahead of Hagen
