I'm in the off season just right now in my game. I would like to know if there is a possibility to "put a rider on a trade list". I'm thinking of trading a statistically good rider (an absolute leader in fact). I would like to sell him to a different team or just exchange for a rider I'm interested in. Is there any possibility of that kind of trading in PCM? |

You can't exchange riders. For that, you will need to buy Cycling Manager 1 from 2001 |

Hehe - I won't back in time to 2001.
But can I increase the interest in my rider to other teams? Or just have to wait until one of them is going to ask about him (if it happens). |

It will not happen. Even the best riders get very less offers. If his contract is ending he might get contract offers, but you wont benefit from it. On the other hand, if I remember right, you cannot use the money you earned from selling a rider to buy a new rider. |

Since playing PCM08 i never ever sold a rider. You don't get many offers, and if, just poor ones.
If i don't want i rider, i always release him at the start of the season. |

I remember that it was nearly impossible to trade for Jan Ullrich, so I had to be Telekom if I wanted to have all the stars on one squad. The other riders weren't that hard to get, and I just traded my way up to a perfect team. On my TdF team, I had like 9 captains. |

It was extremely easy. The AI didn't mind exchanging riders with worse average. E.g. if I had a rider with average 78, I could exchange him with a rider of average 79, etc. |

what? as far as i remember the maximum average was 72-73 and it was Armstrong, Ullrich and Boogerd who was the best climbers, and it was impossible to trade any riders for a Once og Telekom rider. But when I was Telekom i'd always traded klöden (avg 69) for Armstrong (avg 72-73) and then trade some other riders to Pantani(avg 69) and Heras (69)
Oh yeah that was the time

You don't expect me to be able to remember the numbers from back then, do you? |

I've been meaning to ask - when is the best time to release a rider?
I'm Barloworld in late 2009 and want to release Cardenas but need him to compete in the Vuelta. Do I release him straight after the Vuelta so that I have an extra rider slot to fill via transfer after 1st October? Or is there a financial advantage to keeping him into January and then releasing him? |

I'd presume the release fee would be less in January, but you do loose an extra slot for a useful rider/new talent

It'll be the same financially. As you have to pay the remainder of his wages if you release him.
So, you could pay him 4 months of salayry and 12 months of compensation, or just 16 months of compensation. 4+12=16. I'd keep him until the 14 of october, basically only because you cannot replace him before that.. |

Thanks guys.
A follow up question though: I covet Tony Martin, but I low-balled him with an offer and he went elsewhere (can't remember where but they're pro-continental). Can I buy him after 14th October? Or will I have to wait until next year? |

Or will I have to wait until next year? His contract will start at the 15th of October, of course you cannot buy him 2 weeks later.
And that fact that he went to another team has nothing to do with the amount of money he can earn, the role he will be in or the reputation of the team. It just "happens" that a rider will chose a conti team over a cya-top-team or accepts an offer with lower wages or lower role.
I offered the better contract (cya-top-team / captain + sprinter / 17000) and he went as a helper to a conti-team for 12000. I then loaded again but he even refused higher offers from my team. The only solution was to load an earlier save (before 15th of oct) and try again.
