Tour du Maroc - Stage 6

Tour du Maroc - Stage 6 Report

The riders go back into the Mountains for a long and tough stage. At 194.6km, it will be a real test of stamina and endurance. There's not a single flat section at the riders start on an incline up to the Cat 3 Toufliht. After a short descent, it's then a long climb up the Cat 2 Taddart Oufella. It's then a bumpy day prior to a short and steep Cat 2 Anzal and finally a steep but short climb up to the finish line in Agouim.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/Stage%206%20Profile.png

A large breakaway of 16 riders is formed with still 170km of riding remaining. No one particularly threating to the GC lead but plenty of riders looking to make up lost time as well as prove a point.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0001.jpg

Unsurprisingly, there's a good battle over the first climb of the day. It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/brs.png Ndayisenga who just takes maximum points ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/grm.png Lastra.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0002.jpg

The breakaway remains together as they start the next climb. The gap is 4'13 with 130km still to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0003.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aab.png Squire is first over the Cat 2. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/grm.png Lastra is 2nd and moves into 5th in the KOM, 8 points off the lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0004.jpg

The gap is down to 2'57 with 75km to go. There is only 1 KOM between now and the finishing climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0005.jpg

50km remaining and the gap is 2'49. These riders would definitely be fancying their chances given the lack of GC threat in combination with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez not being the most suited to such a stage.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0006.jpg

The riders start the 2nd last climb of the day with 30km to go! The gap is 2'36.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0007.jpg

23km to go as the breakaway go over the final KOM of the day. It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kmm.png Tatarinov who is first over the top. Only 6 riders are with him at the moment but more may join before the base of the final climb.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0008.jpg

In the Peloton we see attacks from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic (9th @ + 2'33) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png Olivier (8th @ + 1'34).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0009.jpg

17km for the GC group of 33 as the duo who attacked have been reeled back in. The gap is currently 2'33 from this group to the leading group of 7.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0010.jpg

The leading group of 7 has less than 10km to go. They have a gap of 1'21 to a group of 5 and an additional 1'54 back to the Peloton. It's looking good for them. In here are:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Cort Nielsen
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/jur.png Van Poucke
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png Lane
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kmm.png Tatarinov
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Mamykin
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aab.png Squire
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/car.png Chamorro

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0011.jpg

Only 7km remaining for the Peloton as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png Olivier (8th @ + 1'34) goes on the attack. He immediately has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png Haig (4th @ + 46") and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/eav.png Godoy (2nd @ + 3") for company.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Crncevic does the chasing before he cracks and leaves the work to Blums.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0013.jpg

Back up front, it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Mamykin who has attacked and has a gap of 30 seconds back to 5 of his former companions.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0014.jpg

4.5km to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kmm.png Arndt is the next to try an acceleration. He is closely followed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0015.jpg

3km now and a group of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png Olivier, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kmm.png Arndt and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Areruya manages to get a small gap back to the other GC leaders.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0016.jpg

Only 1km remaining for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Mamykin. He has a 22 second gap to the chasers who are now being caught by the 4 GC attackers. There is a 29 second gap to the 17 man Peloton which still includes the Yellow Jersey.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0017.jpg

300m to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tti.png Mamykin isn't going to be able to hold on here. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Areruya and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic looking the strongest at the moment, although pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aab.png Squire seems to have a bit in the tank too!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0018.jpg

And it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kmm.png Tatarinov surprises everyone to win Stage 6 ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aab.png Squire!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Areruya and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic finish with the same time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0020.jpg

It's + 26" for the next group including pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png Olivier and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0021.jpg

+ 52" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/eav.png Godoy, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pfi.png Penasa, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png Haig, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/akm.png Galta and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/car.png Garby.

The final Top 10 rider to come through is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Preidler at + 2'26.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Maroc/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0024.jpg

It's a good day in the GC for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez who actually stretches out his lead over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/eav.png Godoy to 29 seconds. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/amc.png Haig and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pfi.png Penasa are + 1'12. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/ced.png Alarcon is 5th @ + 1'32 while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png Olivier is another 2 seconds back in 6th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Roglic and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Areruya move up to 7th and 8th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/isa.png Degenkolb still leads the Points. No change in the gap which stays at 3 points.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/car.png Garby keeps the lead in the KOM by 4 points to a trio.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Areruya leads the U25s, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/duo.png Min is 2nd and then it's a big gap to 3rd.
