AbhishekLFC will bring you the report!
Welcome to Norway, where we're taking a break from the Autumn hills to flash you back to the spring for a cobbled classic! The best riders in the CT division are all here to either redeem their classics campaign, or assert that they weren't a fluke.
The profile is the same as always. It's pretty flat, although not entirely. There are some small bumps along the route, including a gentle slop up to the finish. However, the cobbles seem to likely be a much more substantial obstacle. And even with those - they are not all "red" rated in difficulty. Large groups have to the line together here before, and it's not improbable that it may happen again.
Last year it was Jerome Baugnies who took the win after getting away with a group of favorites towards the end - although no time gaps were granted, so formally it was a group finish.
| Flat | Hill | Sta | Res | Cob | Spr | Acc | Vanspeybrouck | 74 | 69 | 75 | 68 | 80 | 65 | 66 | Vanmarcke | 75 | 65 | 75 | 70 | 79 | 69 | 70 | Van Keirsbulck | 72 | 71 | 75 | 73 | 78 | 70 | 68 | Taubel | 73 | 65 | 69 | 73 | 78 | 61 | 64 | Richardson | 71 | 67 | 68 | 68 | 78 | 60 | 61 | Puccio | 72 | 66 | 76 | 71 | 78 | 60 | 55 | Orue | 69 | 64 | 77 | 70 | 78 | 53 | 58 | Declerq | 74 | 73 | 73 | 71 | 77 | 67 | 67 | Kolev | 75 | 62 | 73 | 71 | 77 | 62 | 67 | Naesen | 75 | 72 | 77 | 73 | 76 | 77 | 76 | Thwaites | 73 | 65 | 74 | 70 | 76 | 78 | 76 | Tsatevich | 74 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 75 | 75 | 75 | Kristoff | 72 | 65 | 70 | 66 | 75 | 80 | 74 |
We have one former winner here, and that's Van Keirsbulck, who won from a dominant solo move back in 2017. He's been somewhat of a CT cobbles legend the last half decade, and he certainly has the skillset to win again. He also has the luxury of being able to be aggressive, since he has Thwaites on hand if it comes down to a sprint. He also has Puccio by his side, one of the best superdomestiques around.
Pieter Vanspeybrouck is in the sunset of his career, but he's had a great season for Trans Looney Tunes. With decent support, he's still the top cobbles threat here on paper. He'll want a difficult race to weed out the fast men, as he doesn't have that burst of speed anymore.
Similar for Vanmarcke, who has a great lieutenant in Taubel. The Dutchman has spent most of his career chasing victories in the PT. Now he's in a prime position to leave his mark at this level.
Oliver Naesen leads a Crabbe team that loves to launch full assaults on the cobbled classics using their manpower. Naesen is the strongest rider overall due to his long lasting engine and tremendous speed for a strongman, but Tim Declerq is technically the best on the cobbles. They also have Tsatevich and Manakov. As always, any of them could lead and win on a good day, and they have the luxury of options.
Plenty of other cobblers have chances too. Richardson and Orue are solid options, but lack the support offered by some other teams.
| Flat | Hill | Sta | Res | Cob | Spr | Acc | Kristoff | 72 | 65 | 70 | 66 | 75 | 80 | 74 | Jakobsen | 74 | 67 | 75 | 73 | 73 | 80 | 80 | Keukeleire | 71 | 69 | 71 | 66 | 70 | 79 | 77 | Thwaites | 73 | 65 | 74 | 70 | 76 | 78 | 76 | Losch | 73 | 65 | 72 | 68 | 71 | 78 | 79 | Naesen | 75 | 72 | 77 | 73 | 76 | 77 | 76 | Ovsyannikov | 72 | 68 | 74 | 72 | 74 | 77 | 76 | Sbaragli | 76 | 66 | 76 | 70 | 72 | 77 | 78 | Tsatevich | 74 | 77 | 74 | 73 | 75 | 75 | 75 |
It's not necessarily likely that this race will end in a sprint, but there are a bunch of guys here who would likely it to. Listed here are those who are strong enough on the cobbles to potentially factor in if 20-30 riders arrive together.
Kristoff is a guy who has made his career about winning classics just like this. His acceleration was never that great, and it's even worse now. But his top speed is still there, and he still has the engine to survive the cobbles.
However, it's Jakobsen who most hopes this is unselective. He's arguably the best sprinter in CT, and he took a shot at this race hoping for a chance at a classics win despite the cobbles, on which he is good, but not great. IF he survives though, no one here can match him in the final few hundred meters. And unlike a guy like Kristoff, his team is 100% here to support him and ride for his favored race.
Guys like Keukeleire and Losch will be hoping for similar racing to Jakobsen. Surviving will be the challenge. The speed comes easy.
Thwaites, Naesen, and Tsatevich are strong enough classics men in their own rights that they could place or win by surfing wheels even in a pretty selective situation. That is, if they're on good form.

Definitely taken a bit of a gamble here with Jakobsen but it was 2 RD that he had available and, in the off chance that this comes down to a sprint, he'll be there. With Ovsya present too, that provides a secondary option as well as a lead-out man.
Thanks for the preview and good luck to all

Don't know what kind of tactics my team was implementing there Two sprinters in Ovsya and Jakobsen deciding that trying to attack was the best way...
Still 2 riders lower down in the Points scoring which is positive at least.
Thank you for the report!!

I'm loving what Crabbe has done, vintage Strava vibes and what a race by them. Cobbled AI in one-day races is really amazing playing the nombers game, what a race.
Great report!

Lovely report thanks, early season flashbacks to CC dominance!
Corwin pretty much on par for a flat cobble race, we'll take it !

Overall, I'm satisfied with the team's performance in this race - 2 riders (Richardson and Stokbro) finished in Top 10 while Losch got the final ranking points spot.
Thanks for the report.

Great race to follow! Would have hoped for a better placing, but with how it went Puccio in 6th is still a very acceptable outcome.
As always cobble AI seems to be pretty much on point and a very fun race to follow, thanks for the report!

Hilly cobbles not really a McCormick favorite but Rathe showed himself, the mid-race attack probably the right strategy.
Thanks for the report. Congrats once again to Crabbe.

I can't describe how many points we've lost because we decided to have NO cobbler this season. Things will have to change |
