GP Kigali is set to get underway. We have a beautiful, clear day in Rwanda with a bit of wind. Great conditions for the riders so let the race begin!
The first attack of the day comes from Khederi, Videika, Gogl and Malacarne.
Videika is a solid cobbler, he and Malacarne are the only ones to survive the first ascent of the Mur.
Doull, Pushpakumara and Rojas attack on the 3 star cobble section, before the road rises.
The 3 riders join forces with Videika as they have a 1'41'' advantage over the peloton.
The next ascent of the Mur breaks up this group with Rojas now advancing solo.
Meanwhile the peloton is down to 67 riders. Naesen is one of the big names already struggling or perhaps just poorly positioned.
Rojas is the only remaining escapee and he looks like he's going to be caught pretty soon.
The peloton only has 38 riders left with 125 km of the race remaining! Naesen hasn't made it back, once you lose contact it's pretty much race over for you.
Gamper is leading this ever dwindling group over the Mur for the 6th time.
Ariesen and Thwaites now launch an attack! These two teams are the strongest and can play the numbers game.
At the same we see Ovsyannikov and Paprstka losing contact.
Ariesen proving he's stronger than Thwaites over the Mur as the latter is making his way through some lapped riders.
Schäppi now attacks from the favourites group over the tarmaced hill. Sweeck is trying to follow him. We still have 100 km of this race remaining.
Schäppi and Sweeck pass Thwaites and are now looking to join up with Ariesen.
The 3 leaders crest the Mur together and they have a 2 minute advantage over the rest of the favourites.
Kumara makes his move passing the lapped riders and joins up with teammate Thwaites.
With quite a few teams now being represented up the road the chasing is falling mostly on the shoulders of Kolev.
Okbamariam now with a few turns at the front has brought the group closer to Kumara ahead.
At the front of the race Schäppi has just been dropped by the other two leaders.
HelloFresh realise that Kumara is going nowhere fast so they bring him back and they take to the front.
Schäppi is trying his best to hold the wheel at the front of the race. These 3 riders have a 2'40'' gap over the others with 67 km remaining.
Riesebeek did some good work at the front and is now just losing contact, but also sliding back is Tsatevich!
Schäppi has lost contact for good now and sits about a minute ahead and behind both groups.
Tsatevich makes it back to the other favourites in a group that now consists of only 12 riders. 51 km to go.
Vanspeybrouck and Puccio are the ones riding tempo here.
Puccio has done his job, so Van Keirsbulck takes over now. Jorgenson was also in this group for a long time, but has been dropped over the last Mur. Schäppi is just about to be caught.
The group passes the Swiss rider with 35 km to go. The two leaders are still almost 3 minutes ahead.
Speaking of the two leaders their cooperation has taken a hit as Sweeck is riding his own pace with Ariesen around 20'' behind him.
Tsatevich with a puncture just before the Mur. Unlucky!
Jurado cracking before the top. He's had a great day so far.
Declerq, Lindeman and Jacobs have also lost contact.
Schoonbroodt as well! The race is literally in pieces now as we start the final 20 km.
Most of the riding has been done by Vanspeybrouck. He has Van Keirsbulck and Verhelst with him. The trio now have Ariesen and Sweeck in their sights.
The trio make contact with 15 km to go. This is the penultimate ascent up the Mur.
Behind the is a chasing trio of Tsatevich, Declerq and Lindeman.
Verhelst and the former two escapees can't follow on the Mur. The two strongest riders today are Vanspeybrouck and Van Keirsbulck.
Vanspeybrouck is dropped on the tarmac climb! 8 km to go.
Vanspeybrouck tries to use his superior cobble skills on the Mur, but he can't close the gap. Guillaume Van Keirsbulck wins GP Kigali!
We have a 3 way fight for 3rd place and Sweeck finds the energy to beat Ariesen and Tsatevich on the line.
Verhelst then finishes 6th. Declerq 7th, Lindeman 8th, Jansen 9th and Jacobs rounds out the top 10.
