Thanks to the amazing redordead for another great preview!
Welcome to the 4th edition of the Sakartvelo Trophy. This is the lone mountain classic on the CT calendar, but that doesn't make it easy. At almost 234 km this race requires some serious stamina and resistance. Climbing ability is foremost, but there are some prolonged flatter sections along with the finish. The long final descent doesn't prevent long range attacks, but a sprint finish of around 10 riders is also a possibility. Not all of the big CT names are here, but since it's a C2 category race there are also some competent PCT riders.
With that said let's look at some of the favourites:
| FL | MO | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | DH | Mas | 69 | 78 | 77 | 74 | 74 | 60 | 77 | 70 | Salinas | 69 | 77 | 73 | 74 | 74 | 59 | 72 | 66 | Brenes | 66 | 78 | 72 | 71 | 78 | 58 | 68 | 64 | Jaramillo | 66 | 77 | 75 | 70 | 69 | 67 | 76 | 66 | Martin | 66 | 78 | 73 | 71 | 72 | 61 | 70 | 59 | Kozhatayev | 74 | 77 | 74 | 71 | 75 | 52 | 69 | 74 | Gilanipoor | 69 | 77 | 71 | 74 | 71 | 56 | 73 | 73 | Manfredi | 69 | 78 | 65 | 68 | 73 | 62 | 73 | 73 | Battaglin | 67 | 77 | 72 | 69 | 72 | 62 | 70 | 72 | Kennaugh | 74 | 77 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 66 | 63 | 59 |
A bit deja vu perhaps, but I have Mas as #1 again. His stats just look too nice not to have him at the top. Salinas is usually in a super domestique role, but we know he can ride well for himself. Same story with Brenes who gets to be the team leader today. Jaramillo is the fastest finisher among the favourites, he'll hope for a sprint finish. Martin has been solid for Glanbia all year. Kozhatayev is the best rouleur, but can't really sprint. Attacking from a long way out could be the best chance for him. Gilanipoor, Manfredi and Battaglin are pretty similar run of the mill climbers. Kennaugh is another great rouleur for a climber.
| FL | MO | HI | ST | RS | SP | AC | DH | Azman | 69 | 76 | 77 | 69 | 72 | 65 | 75 | 69 | Henao | 65 | 76 | 76 | 71 | 73 | 63 | 70 | 67 | Borisavljevic | 68 | 77 | 73 | 74 | 74 | 59 | 65 | 68 | De Vos | 68 | 75 | 75 | 73 | 73 | 62 | 69 | 73 | Blikra | 69 | 75 | 75 | 72 | 70 | 62 | 72 | 63 | Atapuma | 65 | 77 | 72 | 69 | 70 | 59 | 71 | 69 | Vysna | 67 | 76 | 75 | 70 | 73 | 52 | 69 | 58 | Arifin | 66 | 76 | 74 | 67 | 71 | 58 | 72 | 63 | Martin | 68 | 75 | 72 | 74 | 71 | 59 | 71 | 65 | Saggiorato | 67 | 76 | 72 | 70 | 72 | 57 | 70 | 65 | Sakalou | 66 | 76 | 75 | 63 | 72 | 60 | 72 | 62 | Brandt | 67 | 76 | 69 | 74 | 69 | 60 | 66 | 71 | Moschella | 57 | 78 | 68 | 71 | 68 | 50 | 60 | 74 | Ji | 65 | 77 | 72 | 68 | 64 | 58 | 60 | 66 |
A few mentions for a few other riders. Azman is another faster finisher. Henao and Atapuma will likely be working for Jaramillo, but both are capable. Borisavljevic, De Vos, Blikra and Vysna fall into that category as well. Arifin is the leader for Indosat. Sakalou is a bit punchier and could sit in the wheels if Kozhatayev goes on the attack. Moschella and Ji are two very one dimensional climbers. If I was Shonak I'd hope they'd work for Azman.

Thanks Nemo.
As a C2 race I will be looking for Dan to take at least a top 5, top 3 ideally.
Good luck all

This is our penultimate C2 race. I would love to see one of my guys do well here, especially Gilanipoor with this rare leadership opportunity. But in the end it's C2, so not a big deal really
Thanks for the preview

Good luck everybody - had to make a split here and Roson not to the startline due to scheduals crashing.
Thank you for the great preview!

Great preview! I'd love to see our old boy Kozhatayev doing well, thus rooting for him.

Not sure what I had against this race but none of our climbers here. Probably got confused. But a couple of our stagiaires get to make their debut.

Ehm... Okay? We'll obviously happily take that unexpected win - Manfredi must have been on a stellar day given his secondary stats! We obviously benefitted from MO races not having a stat restriction, and Manfredi with his pretty bad backups being well below 74.49 OVL (which I definitely had in mind during renewals, though).
And while I'm obviously happy as well about the depth result (I guess we got almost as many points as in Andorra here ), I don't really get how Schmid and Thièry could keep up with the first big group here... Feeling a bit sorry for those who were neglected by the AI - especially for Aramco, as Mas should have easily won this one...
Thanks for the report to Nemo anyway, and I guess that's just the luck we were missing in the first few months

Atapuma, nooooooo
Glad he managed to hold on to the podium though, and very happy with 3 guys top-12, certainly better than what we hoped for. A shame this is not a HC-race
Thank you so much Nemolito and congrats Fabianski! |

A fine race from our point of view. Schunk in the last 8 of the break on his debut.
Brenes gets to show himself when not sacrificing for Amador and at PCT team takes the top points.
Thanks for the reports and congrats to Jura.

That was a bit of a let down given how early Blikra and Vysna were dropped and how Gilanipoor couldn't respond to any move at all. 11th is not an unrealistic result, but I was hoping for the team to do a bit better here. I guess a bright spot is lvl 1 Ardila in 35th, but that doesn't score us any pts of course
Congrats to Fab on the win and thanks to Nemo for the report
Btw, I didn't realise Sakartvelo was raced in Japan

What a win from Manfredi. Congrats
I guess that alone justifies keeping him, when I was close to "picking him up" late in the window

Nice report and win for Jura!
7th a bit disappointing fir Dan Martin but I guess a downhill and flat finish wasn't going to suit him

Yeah can't lie, that's a very very disappointing result from Mas. Have no idea why Borisavljevic wasn't able to control that or how Mas didn't actually make up the ground himself. Getting passed on the line is annoying too but at least Borisavljevic was there to pick up some depth points.
233km and a guy with no STA and low RES manages to win. GG I guess
In all seriousness, congrats to Jura and thanks to Nemo for another great report!!

After his tremendous work done for Amador Brenes proved he is more than capable of doing his own battles. A win would have been nicer, but I can't complain.
Congrats Fabianski and thank you very much for the report!
