I want to make my own db for me with about 23 great historical riders that are slightly under rated to help the present riders do things. I only want a max 23. Any suggestions for new riders and maybe their stats would be welcome. I definately want these riders:
Armstrong
Pantani
Ullrich
Anquetil
Merckx
Poulidor
Coppi
Bartali
Indurain
Museuw
Thanks for help. |

As far as I remember, Merckx was the ultimate all-round rider, so I think no value should be less than 75.
FL: 77
MO: 83
HI: 81
DH: 79
TT: 83
STA: 81
RES: 83
REC: 85
C0BB: 81
FI: 77
SP: 79
ACC: 85
Poulidor was more of a classic climber+trialist combo:
FL: 72
MO: 82
HI: 80
DH: 77
TT: 81
STA: 77
RES: 79
REC: 75
C0BB: 72
FI: 81
SP: 59 (my father used to tell me that Poulidor was actually a very good sprinter at the early stages of his career, though)
ACC: 80
Museeuw was for me one of the great masters of the Monuments, along with Vlaeminck:
FL: 79
MO: 69
HI: 82
DH: 70
TT: 76
STA: 70
RES: 80
REC: 69
C0BB: 83
FI: 81
SP: 74
ACC: 79
And now for my take on Pantani:
FL: 65
MO: 85
HI: 77
DH: 79
TT: 69
STA: 77
RES: 77
REC: 77
C0BB: honestly I don't remember Pantani taking on the pavés, 55???
FI: 79
SP: 61
ACC: 81 |

Pantani was better in the mountains, but not 3 points better than Armstrong... |

I assume that these stats are meant for database creation, so I'd tweak them a bit in order to enhance the game's realism.
Even though Pantani's climb rating is 85, his endurance+recovery ratings are no more than 77, while Armastrong has all of these ratings above 80; which means that, should Pantani finish with a huge lead in a mountains stage, it wouldn't be likely for him to be as successful in future stages.
Let's say that, out of three mountain stages, Pantani would win one with a reasonable lead, but Armstrong would win the other two...I guess this would be realistic.
I also underrated a bit Merckx's fighting ability; I once added him to the database with an 82 fighter rating (closer to real life), but he'd be completely unstoppable, even more than in RL... |

You're welcome ;-)
BTW, I also created Joaquim Agostinho for the database, with these ratings,
FL: 74
MO: 83
HI: 76
DH: 75
TT: 81
STA: 76
RES: 80
REC: 76
C0BB: 53 (or even less; Agostinho was truly awful with the pavés)
FI: 80
SP: 67
ACC: 78
IMPORTANT:
Favourite Weather: Heat Wave
Least Favourite: Cold or Wet |

Oh, that's too much, don't You think? This guy would win any grand tour by 20 minutes at least I don't think that he was such an excellent climber, my suggestion is, that he was great especially in STA/RES/REC, something like this...

Fuente and Lucien Van Impe were widely considered to be the finest pure climbers of their day (arguably two of the finest ever, indeed), and I remember clearly watching Merckx getting the better of them on several occasions. Not to mention that only Vlaeminck, Sean Kelly and Museeuw would compare to him in the Monuments...
Perhaps one could argue that his superhuman records were based mostly on his amazing pace. At least, the images from him which stand out to me the most are his sudden attacks: when he got off, nobody, I mean nobody, would catch up to him. He could singlehandedly shred the field, which is something I have never watched since. |
