Not a very difficult first half of the race but it gets a bit bumpier through the 2nd half and then with the final uphill climb as well. Expect some good, aggressive racing here and some attacks given some of the gaps! Could definitely be difficult for Tenorio to hold onto his GC lead.
Van Heerden wins the first KOM of the day. The breakaway still trying to establish a lead.
127km to go and we have a breakaway of 6 with a 2'53 gap to the Peloton. In here are:
Van Heerden
Vermeersch
Tennant
Insausti
Mugisha, Vendrame
Vermeersch wins the first of 2 intermediate sprints.
Vermeersch wins the next KOM sprint too. 90km and their lead is at 3 minutes.
He's really dominating these sprints as he wins the 2nd intermediate sprint as well.
This time it's Van Heerden who dominates to win the KOM sprint. He currently leads by 6 points.
42km to go and Mugisha wins the KOM ahead of Van Heerden. A high pace in the Peloton means these 2 are only 30 seconds ahead.
The Peloton complete the catch with still 36km to go which may set-up some attacks. The majority of the pace making came from King Power with support from Isostar.
27km to go and the high King Power pace in combination with the rollercoaster nature of this part of the stage has led to gaps. 49 riders currently in the front group.
15km to go and the first attack from a favourite. It's Sagan who attacks through the final KOM sprint of the day.
This attack has caused chaos in the group behind which is down to 17 riders! Tenorio has been left to set the pace in this group as it is his GC lead at threat with Sagan 36 seconds clear with 11km remaining.
6km to go, Sagan still 33 seconds clear. The group behind him is reduced to 12 riders now:
Tenorio
Yates
Gidich
De Bie
Paulinho
Lopez
Faglum Karlsson
Lutsenko
Spilak
Prado
Dunbar
Dennis
Sagan is under the kite but his lead is down to 28 seconds and it's a very steep final kilometer.
And he doesn't survive much longer as Yates and Lopez come past him at speed!
Tenorio paying for his chasing efforts as the other 12 riders power away from him. His GC lead very much at threat here.
600m to go and Lopez is leading. Gidich looks strong too.
Lopez still too strong and the weaker of those in this group are being distanced.
And in the end no one was anywhere near him! Lopez is our stage winner and he will take the GC lead!
De Bie is 2nd ahead of Yates. Sagan clearly kept a bit in the tank as he is 4th. These 3 are + 10".
+ 34" for Gidich in 5th, Lutsenko in 6th and Faglum Karlsson in 7th.
The other 5 who were in the leading group come in at + 1'06.
Tenorio is 13th, he loses + 1'34 and will lose the GC lead.
A 62 man group comes in at + 3'07. In here are the likes of Borges, Skujins, Bobridge and Van Garderen & Slagter.
Lopez moves into the GC lead with a 29 second gap to Yates and an extra second to De Bie who will be the biggest threats going into the final stage.
Lopez leads the Points.
Van Heerden with a 5 point lead in the KOM over Mugisha.
Gidich is best U25 rider.
Moser leading the Teams.
