Scandinavia Open Road Race - Stage 2

Scandinavia Open Road Race - Stage 2 Report

Not a very difficult first half of the race but it gets a bit bumpier through the 2nd half and then with the final uphill climb as well. Expect some good, aggressive racing here and some attacks given some of the gaps! Could definitely be difficult for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Tenorio to hold onto his GC lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/Stage%202%20Profile.png

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Van Heerden wins the first KOM of the day. The breakaway still trying to establish a lead.

127km to go and we have a breakaway of 6 with a 2'53 gap to the Peloton. In here are:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Van Heerden
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Vermeersch
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/yor.png Tennant
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gcn.png Insausti
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/brs.png Mugisha, Vendrame

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Vermeersch wins the first of 2 intermediate sprints.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0003.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/xr0.png Vermeersch wins the next KOM sprint too. 90km and their lead is at 3 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0004.jpg

He's really dominating these sprints as he wins the 2nd intermediate sprint as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0005.jpg

This time it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Van Heerden who dominates to win the KOM sprint. He currently leads by 6 points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0006.jpg

42km to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/brs.png Mugisha wins the KOM ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Van Heerden. A high pace in the Peloton means these 2 are only 30 seconds ahead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0007.jpg

The Peloton complete the catch with still 36km to go which may set-up some attacks. The majority of the pace making came from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png King Power with support from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Isostar.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0008.jpg

27km to go and the high pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png King Power pace in combination with the rollercoaster nature of this part of the stage has led to gaps. 49 riders currently in the front group.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0009.jpg

15km to go and the first attack from a favourite. It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Sagan who attacks through the final KOM sprint of the day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0010.jpg

This attack has caused chaos in the group behind which is down to 17 riders! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Tenorio has been left to set the pace in this group as it is his GC lead at threat with Sagan 36 seconds clear with 11km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0011.jpg

6km to go, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Sagan still 33 seconds clear. The group behind him is reduced to 12 riders now:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Tenorio
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Gidich
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png De Bie
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bnb.png Paulinho
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aab.png Faglum Karlsson
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Lutsenko
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/lph.png Spilak
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Prado
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/ino.png Dunbar
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gen.png Dennis

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Sagan is under the kite but his lead is down to 28 seconds and it's a very steep final kilometer.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0013.jpg

And he doesn't survive much longer as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez come past him at speed!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Tenorio paying for his chasing efforts as the other 12 riders power away from him. His GC lead very much at threat here.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0015.jpg

600m to go and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez is leading. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Gidich looks strong too.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez still too strong and the weaker of those in this group are being distanced.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0017.jpg

And in the end no one was anywhere near him! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez is our stage winner and he will take the GC lead!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png De Bie is 2nd ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Sagan clearly kept a bit in the tank as he is 4th. These 3 are + 10".

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0019.jpg

+ 34" for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Gidich in 5th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/iso.png Lutsenko in 6th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aab.png Faglum Karlsson in 7th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0020.jpg

The other 5 who were in the leading group come in at + 1'06.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0021.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mol.png Tenorio is 13th, he loses + 1'34 and will lose the GC lead.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0022.jpg

A 62 man group comes in at + 3'07. In here are the likes of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/duo.png Borges, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/trg.png Skujins, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Bobridge and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/spr.png Van Garderen & Slagter.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0023.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez moves into the GC lead with a 29 second gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/fpc.png Yates and an extra second to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/aeg.png De Bie who will be the biggest threats going into the final stage.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/PTHC/Scandinavia/Pics/Stage%202/PCM0024.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/evo.png Lopez leads the Points.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Van Heerden with a 5 point lead in the KOM over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/brs.png Mugisha.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/kng.png Gidich is best U25 rider.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mos.png Moser leading the Teams.
