Welcome for the 2021 Monterrey team time trial! The 14 CT teams will give their all in a long time trial, but with several climbing sections we expect a team with a good mix of climbing and time trial capacities to win this one.
Eddie Stobart Is the first team to start, and their time is 1h09’18”.
Anybody who saw last year’s Monterrey TTT definitely remembers the image of the Minions riding next to Trans for a while. This time it’s Trans who does the same with Strava, although the Slovenian team even manages to leave the others behind in the remaining sector of the race. Trans the new leader with 1h06’22”, Strava in third at more than 4’30” behind the Slovenians.
They might have only brought six riders, they definitely brought that nice mix of climbing and time trialling skills. Aramco DP with a decent time of 1h07’2” currently second out of four teams.
BWT Hyundai starting two teams later than six-headed McCormick, but they manage to still overtake them. The rankings make it clear what kind of performance both teams showed us: BWT first and four seconds faster than Trans, McCormick last at the moment with a time of 1h11’47”.
A better performance than last year, but the lacks of climbing skills still hurts the time trialists from Irish outfit Glanbia. First at the first intermediate, but fourth at the finish line so far: 1h07’44”.
Tafjord Kraft looks a bit lost in the Mexican mountains, especially Doubey and Urianstad. Nevertheless, we see some smiles at the finish line, so after all they must have enjoyed their Monterrey citytrip. They are now sixth of eight, their time is 1h09’45”.
The Crabpack looking smooth on their time trial bikes. Their time is a bit less smooth but still smooth enough to pass the vibe check: fifth out of nine teams, at 2’45” of BWT Hyundai.
5 teams to go, this is the provisional ranking.
Well hello, these guys are looking hella fresh. Looks are deceiving though, the Canadians only just manage to beat red lantern McCormick: tenth out of eleven teams so far.
Bad start for Volcanica, but a decent climbing sector saw them move up a bit in one of their regional focus races: 3 teams to go as the Central Americans are currently fifth at 2’14” of BWT’s top time.
Kind of the same story for our Oceanic friends from BNZ. But even better, as they manage to beat Volcanica by 20”, the Superheroes now in fifth.
Second at the first intermediate, third at the second, and now third at the finish as well! 1h07’03” is the time of the Scandinavians from Gjensidige, as it looks like BWT Hyundai has won this with only Pas Normal remaining!
And here are the men in black! Almost four minutes slower than BWT Hyundai, they rank eleventh out of the fourteen participants!
