Tour of South Africa - Stage 6 Report

It's the last chance for the riders to get a good result here. Following yesterday's disasterclass in breakaway management, I wouldn't expect much different from the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/akm.png Aker-MOT team.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/Stage%206%20Profile.png

No intermediate sprints and no KOM points available today so these 9 riders have 1 thing on their minds and that is a stage win. Their lead with 122km to go is 3'10. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Robov is here to show off his KOM jersey and why not!

75km to go and the Peloton looks to have learned from yesterday as they are 2'15 behind the breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0002.jpg

47km for our leaders and their gap has just dropped below the 2 minute mark for the first time.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0003.jpg

The Peloton has the gap down to 1'20 with 24km to go. It's not a done deal just yet for the 6 riders still out in front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0004.jpg

Our "Peloton" has seen splits again and is down to just 39 riders. The top 15 are all here. 16km to go and they're still over a minute behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0005.jpg

It's looking pretty good for the breakaway with 14km to go as their gap is still 1'20 and the Peloton is very poorly organised.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0006.jpg

An interesting attack from the front of the Peloton. It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/yor.png McCarthy who is + 7'19 so he isn't a GC threat.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0007.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Robov tries an attack to leave behind his companions with 8km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0008.jpg

Meanwhile, the Peloton is back together but their slowed pace leads to attacks. It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/trg.png Skujins (9th at + 1'22). He has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Boswell (10th at + 1'22) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/min.png Hagen for company. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pol.png Izagirre (8th at + 1'10) is looking to react from the Peloton as well.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0009.jpg

1.8km for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Robov and he is all alone about 35 seconds clear at the moment. It's looking promising for him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0010.jpg

Just behind him, everything has been brought back together by a small "Peloton" of 34 riders. This results in more attacks as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bnb.png Paulinho (13th at + 2'05) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/yor.png McCarthy go on the offensive.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bnb.png Paulinho passes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Robov just as they're about to go under the 1km kite. In the Peloton, no one too keen to expend themselves given the proximity to the finish line.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0012.jpg

But with 900m to go it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/min.png Hagen opening up a sprint which is quickly going to propel him into the lead. It's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/trg.png Skujins who has wheel sucked his way forward.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/trg.png Skujins can't keep with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/min.png Hagen who is flying away. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/car.png Van Stayen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Bobridge are coming up from deep.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/min.png Hagen fading fast. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/car.png Van Stayen leading but even he is slowing down which may open the door for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Bobridge. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Kreder is moving at pace too though!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0015.jpg

But pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/car.png Van Stayen shows his class and takes the win! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Bobridge would have taken the GC win with the bonus seconds so it's double disappointment as he is 2nd.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Kreder just takes 3rd ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/duo.png Borges and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/min.png Hagen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0017.jpg

Only 30 riders in the front group. There may be some movement in the minor GC places.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0018.jpg

No changes to the top 10 of the GC which means it's a surprise GC win for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/akm.png Laengen who benefits from limited gaps in the hills along with his team's very strong TTT performance.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Bobridge was very close to stealing the win on the final day but it's 2nd in the end for the Australian who has represented Africa's team well.
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pfi.png Kelderman was fairly anonymous, bar 1 stage, but he takes the final podium spot.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/trg.png Skujins may be fairly disappointed with his GC result, as a result of the TTT, but he does win the Points classification so he takes home a jersey.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0021.jpg

It was a pretty comfortable KOM win for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Robov who was in the break on the stages where it mattered and actually had it won with quite a few days to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0020.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/duo.png Oliveira benefits from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/afr.png Girdlestone missing out on making the 30 man group on the final stage as he is the best U25 rider.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/SouthAfrica/Pics/Stage%206/PCM0022.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Red Bull Zalgiris wins the Teams Classification.
