Stage 3 is the 2nd of three chances for the sprinters. 181 km in length the stage is as straightforward as it gets.
The first breakaway comes from Andersen and Drizners.
Drizners counters after the initial attempts fails, followed by Lietaer.
It's quite a weird sight, but Crabbe makes it 3 riders in the breakaway with Campenaerts joining the party. 100% representation from a single team.
Given that luxury Lietaer has zero problems extending his lead in both the points...
and the KOM classification, taking the two available sprints. The Crabbe are 3'41'' ahead of the peloton with 96 km remaining.
Back in the peloton we see the same 3 teams as yesterday doing the chasing. The gap now at 2'21'' with 62 km to go.
Drizners is the first to get caught with 40 km to go.
The two others follow about 15 km later. An early catch from the peloton today. It's pretty much straight roads all the way to the finish, so we expect to see some sprint trains.
And so we have it with 3 km left:
Orue
McCarthy
Downey
Gonzalez Cortes
Le Roux
Cruz
Boivin
Wippert
Bennett
Abdul Halil
Avelino
Ranneries
Kristoff
Meyer
Tivani
Stash
Boivin is exposed to the wind very early with 2 km to go.
That was doomed to fail as we see him fall back already. Wippert now in that same position with 1.2 km to go.
Abdul Halil comes out of his wheel and is in the lead with 500 m to go. Avelino the closest on the other side.
They both lose speed with about 200 m to go. Looks like it's between Tivani and Kristoff on the far side of the road.
Tivani wins it! Stage 3 goes to McCormick. Kristoff is 2nd and Stash in 3rd.
No changes in the GC. Kristoff does enough to take the points jersey, while Lietaer then wears polkadot tomorrow.
