USA Pro Cycling Challenge - Stage 3

Stage Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/profile.jpg

Stage 3 is the longest stage of the race and it is very long at 237 km. But it is still as flat as it gets pretty much. There is another category 4 KOM for the breakaway to compete for.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0001.jpg

We have continuity from yesterday pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Oss and KOM leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Jorgenson are off again. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bns.png Gough is also trying to make it two days in a row.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Lauk, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Jurado and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/hlf.png Tikhonin are trying to join them.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0003.jpg

All those riders were brought back as well as a few more attempts after. But pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Jorgenson was persistent and got away, eventually joined by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/taf.png Lunder, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Oss and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Visser. But not before the American won the first intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0004.jpg

As mentioned it's a very long stage today so these riders are given more leeway. The gap right now is at 5'49'', but still over 180 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0005.jpg

It's a very windy day today as we see the peloton positioned so they can protect the leaders. Everyone is leaning on Aramco as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/adp.png Sureda is riding solo on the front.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0006.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Jorgenson showed a lot of enthusiasm for today, but it backfires for him as he goes to early in the KOM sprint and comes away with zero pts. The winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/taf.png Lunder will now tie him with 5 pts a piece. The breakaway's advantage has fallen just below 4 minutes with 112 km remaining.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0007.jpg

65 km to go and less than 3 minutes for the breakaway now. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/adp.png Aramco still doing all the work.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0008.jpg

The breakaway still holds 3 minutes as they pass the final intermediate sprint which pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/taf.png Lunder wins. 32 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0009.jpg

The gap is still at 3 minutes with 23 km to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Strava, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tlt.png Trans and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Gjensidige have joined the chase now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0010.jpg

The peloton really tested themselves today, but with a big effort they close the gap, 6 km from the finish. We will see a sprint today after all.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Gjensidige and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tlt.png Trans are the two teams at the front trying to set up a train, but both seem to be struggling to quite put it together.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tlt.png Korosec is trying to do a better job for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tlt.png Selig today, but there are still 2 km to go. Behind chasing are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/adp.png Jakobsen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Bauhaus on behalf of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Appollonio. Further down the line we have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Boivin, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/hlf.png Vingerling, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/esc.png Bogdanovics, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/taf.png Ranneries and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Keough.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0013.jpg

Change of plans for Trans today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tlt.png Selig sits up after Korosec was done and now goes behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Appollonio.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Boivin hits the front now, but with almost 1 km to go everyone here still has a chance.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Boivin still ahead with 500 m to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/hlf.png Vingerling moving forward while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Appollonio has faded.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni now shows his speed on the far side with 300 m to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0017.jpg

And pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Nacer Bouhanni finishes the job! He wins stage 2 of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Boivin has real power in his legs today as he finishes 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/hlf.png Vingerling completes the podium in 3rd.

4th place goes to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/taf.png Ranneries, 5th is home favourite pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Keough, 6th pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/tlt.png Selig and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/adp.png Jakobsen in 7th. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Appollonio 8th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bns.png Wippert 9th and finishing the top 10 is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/ccc.png Vanderbiest.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C2HC/USPCC/S3/PCM0018.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/adp.png Cosnefroy remains the race leader, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/hlf.png Vingerling is now only 6'' behind him. The other sprinters capable of winning the GC are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Keough, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pns.png Matthews and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/ccc.png Vanderbiest. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni's stage win nets him the green jersey for tomorrow. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/vlf.png Jorgenson continues in polkadot, but is tied with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/taf.png Lunder. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Granigan remains in white.
