The media tends to agree on the favourites so we'll expect one of those listed here to end up on the top step of the podium this afternoon.
211km of cobbles and bumps await the riders here in Belgium.
A lot of riders on the attack early on here, once we have a settled breakaway we'll go further into the specifics.
172km to go and a breakaway of 20 riders seems to have been established. A smaller group tried to bridge the gap but the peloton decided 20 is enough. They have a lead of 1'25 and slowly growing. The riders in here are:
Misbah
Arashiro
Medvedev & Dahlberg
Vichot & Konig
Yates
Hamza & Kiflay
Ardila
Frankovic
Quaade, Christian & Archbold
Jallays & Nych
Nieuwenhuis
Dainese
Ho
Froidevaux
138km to go and the breakaway now has a lead of 3'00 back to the Peloton. Ho & Froidevaux have been dropped by their former companions and find themselves half way between the 18 man break and the Peloton.
A push from Lampaert means the dropped escapees were swept up. 123km to go and the lead for the fragmented front 18 is down to 2 minutes.
117km to go and we start seeing some attacks from the Peloton. The first 2 are Paprstka & Garcia Cortina.
They quickly catch the breakaway who seem to separate from one another on every cobbled section.
100km to go and we start to see more attacks from the front of the Peloton. The latest to try their luck are:
Lecourt
Jansen & Peng
Havik
De Gendt
Van Asbroeck
Kuroeda
Van Der Haar
The front group of 22 is 1'36 ahead of the Peloton which now has some very strong riders in there who can cause a serious threat. Havik clearly not having a great day and is dropping back to the Peloton.
The gap to the Peloton is down to 1'06 with 60km to go. They're moving pretty quickly now! The front group has lost many of the early escapees and is now down to 12.
Sinkeldam is the latest rider to bridge the gap. The peloton now only 50 seconds behind a front group of 8.
32km to go and there is some real effort being put in all over the place. Spengler appears to be the first big casualty here. Meanwhile, Lampaert has led the small peloton up to the front group.
23km to go. The favourites now lead the race. Daniel is the front man here, Stallaert and Trentin are keeping in touch. Breen and Bush are the other 2 forming the 4 man group behind Daniel.
15km to go. The 5 riders previously mentioned are joined by Anderberg (Aker) and David (Philips).
The situation behind them is
'34 Sinkeldam
'16 De Gendt, Baugnies, Sibilla
'19 Vanbilsen, Zepuntke, Paprstka, Jansen, Zhupa
Stallaert is in trouble!! Trentin and Daniel have said goodbye to the others and are off with 5km to go. Stallaert now 16 seconds back and relying on Bush for some support.
Just over 3km to go and Trentin looks to get the jump on Daniel! It would be a pretty even sprint between the 2 on paper.
A small gap opens up between the 2 which Trentin maintains as he has 1km to go.
Trentin should have this one in the bag! Meanwhile, Stallaert makes a late push and is quickly catching Daniel.
He doesn't have the energy to celebrate but Matteo Trentin wins this for Carlsberg. He was clearly the strongest out there today.
Daniel holds out against Stallaert in the battle for 2nd. Bush rolls through for a very well deserved yet somewhat surprising 4th.
Anderberg is too strong for David as he takes 5th.
Breen is 7th ahead of this group of 6 who take the final 3 top 10 spots which go to De Gendt, Paprstka and Sibilla.
Zepuntke and Vanbilsen the two who would have expected more as they cross the line in 15th and 17th. Clearly not a good day for either of them.
The celebrations are underway for Carlsberg and their Italian leader as Trentin soaks up the applause from the Belgian fans. It's going to be a long night on the Carlsbergs for the team!
