Yes, the helmets look quite funny.
Only 56 riders divided on 8 teams are participating today. While there is no wind, a break might stand a chance today.
And speaking of a break, here it is: Montenegro (LA/MSS), Gaywood (Procycling-BBC), Sampaio (Benfica), Cappelle (Molteni) and Dall'Antonia (Champion).
As expected, Gatorade, Wiggle and B&O takes up the chasing role. A bit early though, there is still 127kms home.
Kangarid Naran is leading the pack. That explains why the break's advantage has grown to five minutes.
Right before the break hits the first hill, 3 minutes behind them, B&O's Ivan Rovny attacks.
There is still 70kms to go, but Roche (Procycling) and Vastaranta (LA/MSS) is countering!
But the break can take a look downhill, and see the three attackers get swallowed by the pack under Wiggle's control.
47kms to go: As we begin the climb on the finishing hill (its a circuit by the way) for the second time, the pack can still look upto the break.
23kms to go: The Penultimate climb on the finishing hill. Wegmann and Bertagnolli attacks while the break splits into parts.
On the top of the hill, Efimkin counters, but it might be to late because the downhill is about to start.
Bertagnolli is leading ahead of Dall'Antonia and Wegmann, while Efimkin is in between them and the pack.
Efimkin reaches Dall'Antonio as Wegmann pulls away from him. Bertagnolli is still ahead. Notice how you can see the finish line.
Efimkin makes one last go at catching Wegmann as we reach the foot on the hill.
Bertagnolli can smell the win.
Its getting close, but not close enough.
Bertagnolli strikes a triumphant pose, and its well deserved!
Wegmann is second, Efimkin is third.
In the bunch sprint, LA/MSS' Rodrigues is 4th while B&O's Grivko is 5th.
No favourites were left behind today. But ultimately Bertagnolli won. One can wonder why B&O's manger didnt have Grivko attack today.
