Jelajah SKL - Stage 3

Stage Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/profile.jpg

Stage 3 finally gives us KOMs to decide that classification, but more importantly should be crucial in the GC battle. The stage profile actually isn't too dissimilar from yesterday, but it's just hillier, with longer climbs, but still a downhill finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0001.jpg

Zalgiris are giving pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Dyrnes some freedom today as he goes on the attack, most likely in search of KOM pts.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0002.jpg

I takes a while for a 2nd move to materialize, but we have it now with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/jur.png Rekita, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/spr.png Otruba and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/voy.png Natarov.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0003.jpg

That move failed, but this one is showing more promise with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/spr.png Pellaud, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/jur.png Van Moer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/spr.png Maccagli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/voy.png Shirota.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0004.jpg

The five riders now join together as they have 1'41'' advantage over a peloton that hasn't calmed down quite yet as more riders are trying to get away.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Sakalou and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/jur.png Bissegger have also been allowed up the road and eventually join the other riders making it a 7 man breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0006.jpg

There are some quality puncheurs in this break, but none more than pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Dyrnes as he wins the cat. 4 KOM ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bwt.png Sakalou and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/spr.png Maccagli. The peloton is keeping them on a short leash at 1'50''.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0007.jpg

Many teams are contributing to the chase here as the breakaway has 2'13'' with 62 km left.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0008.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/spr.png Maccagli just beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Dyrnes on the next KOM with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/jur.png Bissegger 3rd again. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/spr.png Pellaud, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/jur.png Van Moer and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/voy.png Shirota have all been dropped as the peloton is less than a minute behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0009.jpg

The escapees are completely out of gas on the next KOM, but somehow still hold off the peloton. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Dyrnes just inches ahead of the other and with 13 total points he secures the KOM classification.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0010.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pfi.png Philips are trying their best to use their numbers to make this penultimate climb a difficult one. But for now both pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pol.png Izagirre and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bnb.png Fernandes are near the front and look comfortable.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0011.jpg

The final climb is beginning as we pass the 10 km to go banner. The group has been reduced to only 42 riders. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Keough is the most notable rider that has missed the cut and is in a group 1'25'' behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0012.jpg

It had to happen didn't it?! Philips weren't doing all that work for nothing. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pfi.png Kelderman on the attack now! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/ubs.png Müller is trying to go after him.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0013.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pfi.png Kelderman is brought back mainly due to great work from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pol.png Barthe.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0014.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Eiking counter attack now and he is followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Boswell.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0015.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Eiking is just holding on with a small gap. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Boswell is caught thanks to another one of Izagirre's domestiques pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pol.png Rodriguez Galindo. But these attacks have broken the group further and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Brändle has lost contact and is one group behind now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Eiking still holding a gap going downhill now 5 km from the finish.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0017.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Eiking is in the final kilometer now and looking as good as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pol.png Izagirre did yesterday.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0018.jpg

No celebration as he wins the stage. Every second counts in this race!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/p4e.png Ackermann wins the sprint for 2nd and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/min.png Kalaba is 3rd. Both of them and the rest of group are given a 20'' gap to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Eiking.

Missing out on the bonus seconds are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/mck.png Boswell in 4th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/ubs.png Müller 5th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/brs.png Hadi 6th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pfi.png Kelderman 7th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/ino.png Dunbar in 8th place.

The big loser today is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Brändle coming in 1'50'' after the winner. His GC hopes are gone.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Reports/C1/Jelajah/S3/PCM0020.jpg

Speaking of GC. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/gct.png Eiking's brave ride makes him the race leader before tomorrow's epilogue. He has a 4'' lead over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/pol.png Izagirre in 2nd. Dangermen are also pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/bnb.png Fernandes at 14'' and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/min.png Kalaba at 18''. Fernandes maintains a two point lead in the point classification. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2021/Micros/rbz.png Dyrnes as mentioned before is the KOM winner and Kalaba the current best young rider.
