Stage 2 has a 22km individual time trial. Looking back to yesterdays stage in especially Beltran and Slagter got a big advantage but both are equally bad/average time trialists in comparison to some of the others. Most puncheurs though are clearly in their range and this should help to remain in a decent position.
Masnada had gained a few seconds at least and is a much better time trialist, which should help to see him continueing to be a threat for the GC.
Top favourites GC wise might be Keizer, Brändle, Bobridge or Uran. All of them are superior time trialists and were in the first group behind the trio yesterday.
Stage favourites next to Keizer or Brändle are Zmorka, Lammertink, Dillier or former great Coppel, who though lost a lot more than expected yesterday. His best days are clearly over but he still has the strong TT in him.
Ligthart being the first with a strong time, which was not unexpected seeing his low GC and strong TT combination but seeing him leading at the first split even with Dillier and Robert passing that point, shows his good ride.
Dillier as said 6s behind Ligthard at halftime! Not looking too good for a strong result today.
+15s in the finish.
Robert even +21
Li with a new best time 11s faster but quickly beaten by Marchewka while Cruz comes 11s slower in 2nd for Glanbia.
Then Balloni taking the 1st being another few seconds faster.
As the most recent all got no TV time unfortunately, the cameras are back online for Haugard, one of many UBS time trialists here. And the Norwegian is doing a lot better than his Swiss team mate going into hte lead. BY FAR. 13s faster than Balloni, 16s to Marchewka, which results in 54s to Dillier actually! Maybe this time can stay for some time?
At least Mottin a bit later can`t beat it being 11s down but still on a good 2nd.
Zmorka is the best time trialist here, not the best puncheur though and only here for this stage. He leads at half time! Just 7s to Haugard though and 8s to Dumoulin, who also has passed this point.
Dumoulin as said on a good ride. 3rd at halftime ahead of Sterbini in 4th now.
He is about to get some support as well as team mate Bovenhuis is apparently "waiting" for him. Not the fairest way but no officials car around to check.
Just a few minutes later those most recent riders come to the finish and Zmorka indeed beats Haugard. 11s in the end, which shows that Haugard was indeed on a very good ride.
Dumoulin right behind him. 3rd and 21s down but actually quickly beaten by Rekita, who goes 1s faster.
Lammertink next and he was 5s faster than Zmorka at half time! Strong performance but can he keep it up till the end?
Even slightly extending it! 7s faster than the top favourite. And not many riders left to beat such time most likely. Keizer being the biggest name left, Bobridge, Coppel or Brändle are others.
Coppel was on a good ride till half time. 2nd and +4s only but slipping towards the end down to 3rd adn +12s. Still not bad.
Goncalves next. Going 2nd beating Zmorka as well early on by 1s but slower than stage leader Lammertink.
He almost keeps that pace up till the end. +7s and new 3rd!
Keizer, the rider most were waiting for. He is 20th in GC but equal time as most ahead of him and by far the best time trialist.
5th at halftime sounds worse than it is as it`s just 5s off the best time.
Uran another strong climber, who is in a good GC position. 19th for him early on +19s as well only.
Rosskopf losing a bit more. +29s for him but still, being in the front group yesterday means, he will likely move up anyway.
Same for Zoidl. +24s but also likely moving up with Craddock on a similar ride behind him.
Brändle is always liking races like this as he is very hard to gap and always good against the clock. 2nd and +4 only at half time! Very solid ride. Beating Keizer even. Together this could become a huge race for Red Bull.
Keizer just in the finish and improving a bit. 2nd for him, 2s off Lammertink`s best time! Still a chance for the GC lead?
Brändle though goes another second faster and is in the virtual lead instead! No Red Bull stage winner then but they are virtually 1-2 in GC now with Bobridge/Slagter/Masnada/Beltran yet to come though.
Warbasse meanwhile in the range of similar riders such as Rosskopf/Craddock/Zoidl.
Laengen was around Kwiatkowski yesterday and he is the better time trialist. Not sure, but he might get a free role afterwards as he likely is sitting in a better GC at the end of the day. +16 early on.
Similar with Roe and Warbasse as first goes a bit stronger, +24 and +19.
Spilak was strong yesterday but couldn`t open a gap. Though his TT is decent and he should be in a good position starting tomorrows hard stage while Kwiatkowski behind him is losing a bit more and would need a very good stage tomorrow.
Bobridge at 7s at halftime on a good way but tomorrows stage might not be a pure puncheurs stage, so he will need to fight for every second.
Masnada showed strength yesterday and also today he is on a decent level. Will it be enough to pass Slagter/Beltran and maybe even stay ahead of the stronger time trialists such as Brändle?
Slagter already 1min down at half time. Not ideal but at least he gained around that much yesterday and could try to do so again tomorrow.
A bit better by Beltran. He goes 10s faster than the Dutch but also likely to drop from his GC lead.
Going into the finish, it`s clear that Lammertink will win the stage and Brändle/Keizer will be the new 1-2.
Bobridge remains 7th there with a good ride while Beltran +1'43 and Slagter +2'00 must attack again tomorrow.
GC wise though Beltran still at 4th which is very good post a TT behind Bobrdige as well on the podium.
Laengen best Aker rider as 5th ahead of Uran, Roe, Craddock and Masnada/Zoidl then. Lots of good allrounders.
Slagter still 13th ahead of Spilak while Warbasse 11th, Rosskopf 15th, Kelderman 17th, Kwiatkowski 19th surely hope to see them improved a bit.
