The Tour of Tasmania ends with a 19 km time-trial. Phinney is in the driver's seat and will want to cap this race with another stage win. After him it's all open for who finishes on the podium and top 10. Let's see who has a good day.
One of the first riders is Goldstein who is a good time-trialist and will be a good early benchmark as he takes top spot for now.
24'57''
Our camera lost sight of Sütterlin, but the Puma rider has the new best time. He was 9'' faster than the Russian.
24'40''
One of the favourites today is Vlatos, but the Greek just didn't have it today. A big 38'' behind Sütterlin.
25'18''
Schädlich has a decent ride, 6'' slower than Sütterlin is enough for 2nd place right now.
24'46''
Kukrle now moves into 2nd place. Early guess, but there is a mini 3% ramp at the line and maybe some better climbers can take an extra second or two there?
24'45''
One of the outsiders for today was Leung, but at 18'' behind the best time he falls into 9th provisionally.
24'58''
Well if we need one example that a climber can do well here, we have Vlasov who is only a tenth of a second behind the leading time.
24'40''
It took us a while, but we have a new best time! It's Powless who beats Sütterlin by 2''. Climbing ability might be a small factor after all.
24'38''
Well climbing might be important, but there is no substitute for raw power. Powless is not leading anymore, Würtz comes in 19'' quicker than the American. This time could take some beating.
24'19''
We have French TT champion Paillot coming in, and it's a decent time. 14'' behind Würtz, but that's enough for 2nd provisionally.
24'33''
Ok, now we are switching to the GC battle as we have Gidich across the line. He was 18th in GC, the first rider 20'' or less behind Phinney. It's not a great time by him, but enough to defend his current GC spot.
Virtual GC 1. Gidich2. Paillot+ 21 3. Würtz+ 32
Note: All these placings are provisional and done on the fly. Don't be shocked if the placings vary a small amount in the official results.
Meintjes is decent against the clock, can he limit his losses here? He loses 21'' to Gidich which means he loses to him and potentially to his teammate Paillot. Ullisi meanwhile lost loads as expected and is not a factor anymore.
Virtual GC 1. Gidich2. Paillot+ 31 3. Meintjes+ 31
Bardet also not a factor, but Wirtgen who almost passed him is. The Luxembourgian is faster than Gidich will take the virtual lead.
Virtual GC 1. Wirtgen2. Gidich+ 10 3. Paillot+ 31
Dlamini has been an overachiever so far and he does a decent time, that should place him in 3rd spot for the moment.
Virtual GC 1. Wirtgen2. Gidich+ 10 3. Dlamini+ 24
Speaking of ISA - Hexacta it's Sepulveda next and he is only 5'' behind Wirtgen, very good effort.
Virtual GC 1. Wirtgen2. Sepulveda+ 5 3. Gidich+ 10
Another good rider against the clock is Goos, but he doesn't have the best day and will drop a few spots.
Virtual GC 1. Wirtgen2. Sepulveda+ 5 3. Gidich+ 10 ... 7. Goos+ 35
Tenorio is next through. He is a great TTer and time shows it. 6'' faster than Wirtgen he takes over the top spot.
Virtual GC 1. Tenorio2. Wirtgen+ 6 3. Sepulveda+ 11
Lecuisinier comes next. He can't quite match the time of his Spanish rival. 29'' slower is the Frenchman.
Virtual GC 1. Tenorio2. Wirtgen+ 6 3. Sepulveda+ 11 ... 5. Lecuisinier+ 29
Taaramäe is 6'' faster than Lecuisinier, but that's not a great time either. He does pass Waeytens before the line though as the Belgian loses a lot of time.
Virtual GC 1. Tenorio2. Wirtgen+ 6 3. Sepulveda+ 11 ... 5. Taaramäe+ 23
Veteran Pluchkin places worse than the other premium stage racers, he will lose some spots in GC today.
Virtual GC 1. Tenorio2. Wirtgen+ 6 3. Sepulveda+ 11 ... 9. Pluchkin+ 36
Guerreiro and Buchmann both lose over 2 minutes. They lose their spots in the top 10.
Yates was in 4th before the stage, but he loses over 3 minutes today. GC hopes are gone.
Sepulveda is not terrible against the clock, but against this competition he still loses over 2 minutes.
Phinney has passed Hagen before the line. What is the American's time? He is 50'' behind Würtz's time?! Is this for real?! This means he's also slower than Tenorio. This shocking performance might throw a monkey wrench in the standings.
Phinney performance or underperformance let's say, has destroyed our on the fly calculation. Hagen comes in as the last rider and is over 2 minutes behind the best time. As expected really. We will wait for the official results now.
Well one thing we know for sure. Mads Würtz has won this time-trial quite emphatically. Paillot is 2nd and Powless 3rd.
Ok. The GC results are in now. Taylor Phinney has an off day, but he does enough to win the Tour of Tasmania for the 2nd year in a row. We all thought today would be his day, but he actually did most of the work yesterday. Justo Tenorio is 2nd, which is a fantastic start for him and newly promoted team MOL. Joining them on the podium is  Tom Wirtgen who had an excellent day today to jump on the podium.
Due to Phinney only finishing 30th on today's stage he gained 0 points. Which means Coquard defends his points jersey. Kurianov was already confirmed KOM winner yesterday and today Wirtgen just confirmed his status as the best U25 rider.
