A tricky American course for this one day race

6 men went in the break. Blaudzun, Piamonte, Downing, Creciun, O'Loughlin and Velo

They were up to a 10 and a half minutes lead with 110km to go and Gatorade had started chasing

But they then went for a different tactic as Andy Flickinger snook away

While up front, Velo and Piamonte moved away from the other 4 breakaway riders

With 50km to the finish, the gaps were quite emphatic.

Velo and Piamonte still lead

Flickinger is now 10'36 behind the lead two riders

The peleton were over 16 minutes behind? Have they given up on this race? Wiggle havent, they now come to the front hard on the upcoming steep hill, stretching the peleton

Blanco, Golcer, and Scholz bring 4 others with them away from the peleton: teammate Bertagnolli, Wegmann, Efimkin and Pereiro

But the rest of the peleton arent done yet. Thinning down to a group of 10, the Wiggle led group are being chased back

Up front, Piamonte leaves Velo behind at the top of the first of 3 particularly tough climbs inside the final 30 kilometres

And when the race favourites reach that climb, the Wiggle group has been caught by the chasing 10 and there are attacks. Oscar Pereiro powers away

Also attacking are Wegmann, Efimkin, Bertagnolli, Froome and Nydam. They start to catch the breakaway riders left, including Pereiro's teammate O'Loughlin

With 17km to go, Pereiro moves into 3rd place on the road - but is still 5 and a half minutes behind Velo, and over 6 minutes behind Piamonte. Is it going to be too much?

Behind Pereiro, there is Efimkin, Wegmann, and Bertagnolli who are just ahead of Nydam and Froome

Pereiro is determined to go for the win though, he pushes hard and catches Velo with 3km to go.

Piamonte still has a minute but that doesnt last long at all!

The Spaniard now pulls away from everyone else

And Pereiro wins the CSC Invitational!

Wegmann is in the driving seat for 2nd but he falters so Efimkin comes through for 2nd and Bertagnolli 3rd

Wegmann it seems, had cracked completely. He takes 4th

Piamonte manages to take 5th

Scott Nydam cracked in the final few hundred metres but is able to cling on to 6th ahead of his fast finishing teammate Saul Raisin. Chris Froome was 8th as Velo faded to 9th.
