Tour de l'Avenir - Stage 3
Nemolito
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av01.jpg

Yesterday was very windy and we could see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Beullens take a surprising win home from the breakaway. Today we’re back in Belgium for the longest stage of this Tour, as we go from Visé to Tournai over 206 km. Will the sprinters actually be able to sprint this time?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av02.jpg

It takes a while, but after 25 km of constant attacks, the break of the day is formed. The three teams in the top-3 of yesterday’s stage are back at it. The riders in the break are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Primozic, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Chokri, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Phodingam, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Gamper and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wirtgen.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av03.jpg

Just like yesterday, we see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tfc.png Tryg Forsikring Cykling U23, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/zal.png DK - SVA Zalgiris, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sct.png Swisslion Cycling Team and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Carlsberg – Danske Bank working in the peloton. Some other teams are also helping today though: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rsd.png Ritter Sport Development, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pol.png Polar, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sui.png Team Swiss and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Tinkoff-EA p/b Aegon.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av04.jpg

120 km to go as the six leaders are at the foot of the Namur Citadel, first KoM of the Tour and only one of the day. 2.4 km at 4.2%, who will manage to grab a hold on the first KoM-jersey?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av05.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Chokri attacks with 1 km to the top, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wirtgen the first rider behind him!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av06.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter now accelerating through the middle, 300 meters left to climb!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av07.jpg

A perfectly timed sprint photo shows us how pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Primozic just manages to beat pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wirtgen, the first KoM-jersey will go to Slovenia! The peloton crosses the top 3’50” later.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av08.jpg

98 km to the finish line as the riders find the first and only intermediate sprint of the day. Easy win for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Gamper and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Chokri scoring the other points and seconds.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av09.jpg

50 km to go and the gap between the leaders and the peloton now at 2’. Just like yesterday, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tfc.png Tryg Forsikring Cykling U23 and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sct.png Swisslion Cycling Team are very present at the head of the peloton. There’s not as much wind as yesterday, but a group of 25 riders has been distanced. No big names, either sprinter- or GC-wise.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av10.jpg

Is it possible to have a breakaway rider be victorious again? Under the banner of the last 20 km the time difference is 1’15”! The first twenty riders in the peloton have actually distanced the rest for a second, but they are all back together now (except for the 25 who are 2’30” behind). The wind has actually started blowing a bit heavier again, time for some managers to have another heart attack?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av11.jpg

15 km to the finish line, the gap between the peloton and the leaders now 40”.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av12.jpg

The gap is growing again! 10 km to go as the time difference has gone up to 1’10”! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tfc.png Norsgaard and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tfc.png Honore have tried to close the gap, but two against six is not a fair battle! Nobody else is helping Tryg for the moment!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av13.jpg

The lead has only been cut by five seconds when we reach the final seven km! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Gamper is not the best sprinter, but he’s a very promising rouleur, he plays to his strengths and attacks with 6.7 km to the finish line!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av14.jpg

Five km remaining and the five chasers are 15” behind the Lierse rider! The peloton at an additional 55”!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Gamper now entering the city of Tournai with 3 km to go! The five chasers now at 20”, the peloton an additional 50” behind!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Gamper 2 km away from glory now! The five chasers still at twenty seconds, while the peloton has come ten seconds closer, but that’s still one minute behind the race lead!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av17.jpg

The Austrian now under the flamme rouge, as behind him the sprint for second place has started! Or is it still possible for this group to win it? First rider behind them is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sct.png Siric leading out the peloton, 20” behind!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Gamper is falling still with 700 meters to go! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter now coming quickly, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Primozic positioned perfectly in the Brit’s wheel! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tfc.png Zariff the first “real" sprinter a bit further!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av19.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter in the lead with 400 meters to go, but it looks like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Chokri is making the most speed! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sct.png Rajovic leading the sprint in the peloton just around the corner, but that seems to be too far away to still win the stage!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av20.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Chokri stands still with 200 meters to go, and it looks like it is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter vs. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Primozic for the win!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av21.jpg

The Slovenian flies past the Minion in the last meters, déjà vû for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter, as this happened at the Citadel of Namur as well!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av22.jpg

And the Trans rider even has time to celebrate! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Primozic wins stage three ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Hayter and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wirtgen! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Chokri comes in fourth ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lpu.png Gamper (5th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Phodingam (6th).

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/Others/Avenir/pics/03av23.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rsd.png Kanter (7th) wins the battle of the sprinters ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tfc.png Zariff (8th), pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sct.png Rajovic (9th) and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/zal.png Ovsyannikov (10th). Except for the 25 coming in some minutes later, everyone finishes in the same time, and the yellow jersey doesn’t change shoulders.
