USA Pro Cycling Challenge - Stage 3

Stage Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/profile.jpg

Stage 3 is a 180 km with three intermediate sprints and category 3 KOM. The latter competition will be decided, but there are a plethora of sprinters that need bonus seconds heading into the epilogue.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0001.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Agostini and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Garcia launch the 1st attack on this narrow road section.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0002.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Garrison and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png De Vreese are on the move next.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0003.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Ruiz and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/adp.png Richardson quickly go also. We have 6 men in the breakaway as they eventually link up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0004.jpg

The escapees have quickly built up a 4 minute gap over the peloton. We see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Nordica, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Centovalli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Sotto take over the early pacemaking.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0005.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Ruiz takes the 1st intermediate sprint, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Garrison and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/adp.png Richardson. The breakaway's gap is now at 3 minutes.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0006.jpg

Fast forward to next sprint and we have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Ruiz winning it again. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png De Vreese 2nd this time and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/adp.png Richardson 3rd. The gap is 2'36'' with 79 km left.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0007.jpg

Back in the peloton we see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png McCormick have also joined the chase. 2'19 is the gap now with 58 km to go.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0008.jpg

None of the breakaway riders really had a chance at the KOM jersey without having any point prior to this stage. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Garcia, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/adp.png Richardson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Agostini roll through it. We see the peloton is on their heels now, we might see the catch made before the last intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0009.jpg

The breakaway is indeed caught now with 22 km to the finish and 11 km from the intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0010.jpg

We see pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Bralirwa, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Strava, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Glanbia and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Azteca "practicing" their leadouts here for the intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0011.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni's proved to be most effective as he wins this sprint and 3 bonus seconds, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Lavoine and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett. Hopefully they left something in the legs for the big sprint later.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0012.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Glanbia, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png BNZ and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Bralirwa take the front positions with numbers. All the sprinters are lined out behind, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelluchi positioned further than others.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0013.jpg

Everyone seems to be here with 3 km to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett has one man in front on the left. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Selig two more next to him. Followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Scully, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Guillen.

In the middle we have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Lavoine, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/p4e.png Lutsyshyn, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Vaquera and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Kip, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Carsi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelluchi at the back. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Wippert has his own train going on the far right.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0014.jpg

Less than 2 km now. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Selig is again having trouble following pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Habtom. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Wippert's train is still going and we have the others following. Even pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelucchi is here?!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0015.jpg

1 km to go. The leadouts are nearly spent and sprinters are launching their final kicks.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0016.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni is the lead with 500 m to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Wippert is right there also. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Scully the furthest back at this point.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0017.jpg

200 m now. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen is in the lead, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Wippert seems to be fading and we have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Lavoine, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/p4e.png Lutsyshyn, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Guillen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelluchi gaining speed through the middle.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0018.jpg

And it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/p4e.png Lutsyshyn who overtakes pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen in the very end! Great effort by both! And pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelucchi finished 3rd, he sure knew what he was doing today as the leader.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Guillen is 4th again, he would've loved a podium, but this race is about consistency and he's been the model for it. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Scully with a strong finish in 5th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett 6th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/azt.png Vaquera 7th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Lavoine 8th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni 9th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Selig 10th.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2/USPCC/S3/PCM0019.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelucchi remains the overall leader ahead of the time-trial, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Guillen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/p4e.png Lutsyshyn. Pelluchi also remain the points leader, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Barbin is the confirmed KOM winner now and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Ruiz is the new best young rider after scoring 6 bonus seconds today.
