Post Danmark Rundt - Stage 4
Marcovdw
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/profile.jpg

Stage four is the shortest stage so far at 110 kilometer. It takes the riders from Holstebro to Tørring. It will be the last chance for the sprinters, who have no obstacles today except if the breakaway receives too much room.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/01.jpg

Attacks are popular in the early stages. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Hoelgaard goes first, followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Pellaud followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Lovik, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Lopez, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Delgerbayar, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Munyaneza and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wilson, and finally pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Ben Nasser.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/02.jpg

This group is too big and is caught with 100 kilometer to go, 10 kilometer before the final mountain sprint of the race. All other climbs in the race were third category, but this one will be of the fourth category, giving fewer points.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/03.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wilson, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Delgerbayar, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Vila and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Belevics then tried to get away but are caught with five kilometer to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Lovik tries next.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/04.jpg

The Norwegian couldn't get away either. Now it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Hirschi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afr.png Laizer and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Zaini. The Swiss can win the KoM if he wins the next sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/05.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Hirschi indeed crosses the line first. With pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afr.png Laizer second and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Zaini third at a gap, he is the winner of the mountains classification!

Some more riders attacked from the peloton but not in time for the mountain sprint, including co-runner-up pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Ben Nasser, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wilson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Schoonbroodt.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/06.jpg

The breakaway seems cursed today, as it is caught again with 70 kilometer to go. Almost all teams which didn't have a rider in this attempt participated in the chase.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/07.jpg

Eventually a small group can get away, though the gap is only 1'30 at its maximum:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Ben Nasser
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Delgerbayar
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Pellaud
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Schoonbroodt

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Wilson tried to join as well but their attack was vetoed.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/08.jpg

Tunisian Champion pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Ben Nasser is the only rider interested in the intermediate sprint at 21 kilometer from the finish line. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Delgerbayar and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Pellaud take the other bonus seconds, though largely irrelevant for the GC. The peloton at a minute, led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Glanbia and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Carlsberg.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/09.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Schoonbroodt feels the hot breath of the peloton and attacks for the stage win. Teammate pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Ben Nasser gives up already. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Strava and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Guave have taken over the lead over the peloton.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/10.jpg

The Dutchman just makes it past the ten kilometer sign, but he is caught like his mates before. We're heading to a sprint after all, not that that was ever in doubt.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/11.jpg

All aboard the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Guave train! There are some special carriages today: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Le Gac - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Feiereisen - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Groves, as the regular train has been diverted to mid-pack. Concurring operators pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Strava and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Carlsberg also have specials today: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Oelerich - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Schinnagel and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Resell - pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Quaade. The only two usual suspects somewhat near the front are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Mezgec and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Scully.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/12.jpg

Those two are prime favorites now as they launch under the flag, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Manarelli the only one also opting for the clear line. The impostor yellow train still leading, with the actual one around 25th place with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Boev. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Habtom, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Ulanowski can also be found around there.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/13.jpg

500 meters, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Scully with the slight edge over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Mezgec but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Manarelli is approaching fast. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Habtom at a few bike lengths followed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Caruso and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Feiereisen. While the other sprinters have started their sprint, they'll be much too late.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/14.jpg

It's a close finish between the front two but it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Tom Scully by centimeters! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Luka Mezgec cannot pick up his second stage win but second place is nothing to be ashamed of. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Carlos Alexandre Manarelli completes the podium by being awake.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Habtom finishes a distant fourth which is not unusual, but pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Caruso in fifth is a huge surprise. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Feiereisen in sixth as if he was pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Guave's plan all along.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S4/16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Frame finishes seventh. Who even is that? pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Van Lerberghe is eighth, but no cobblestone in sight. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Schinnagel needs an update on his 65 SP if he finishes ninth here. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Abraha completes the RNG top ten.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen in eleventh is better than his first stage but definitely not where he should be with the riders in front of him. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afr.png Van Heerden 17th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni 20th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett 26th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Boev 28th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelucchi 30th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Coutinho 37th, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger 47th and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Ulanowski 56th.

The stage has a next-to-none impact on the GC, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Odd Christian Eiking in the lead heading into the time trial. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Luka Mezgec takes green because he thought it was worth sprinting today. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Marc Hirschi wins the polka dot jersey as long as he doesn't get lost tomorrow. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Andrea Enrico Maccagli should easily defend white tomorrow, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Gjensidige's lack of time trialists will make defending the teams classification a lot harder.
