Post Danmark Rundt - Stage 2
Marcovdw
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/profile.jpg

Stage two takes the riders from Korsør to Asnæs, confusing every non-Scandinavian with their weird symbols. We have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Mezgec in yellow, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Boev in green as replacement of the former, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Hirschi in white. After today's 182.8 kilometer flat stage that might all change. Someone will have to claim the polka dots as well!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/01.jpg

The first attempt to form a breakaway contained five riders:
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/eur.png Janse van Rensburg
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Lovik
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Quevedo

However, more rider tried to counter, forcing the peloton to catch all but the original five with 150 to go, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Scott last of all.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/02.jpg

Despite the gap being minimal at that point, the peloton allowed these five some more breathing room, owing to the gap of 2'30 at the intermediate sprint with 125 kilometer to go. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Quevedo beats pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige taking third and a few more bonus seconds to move him even further up the standings. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Quevedo is also someone whose bonus seconds might be important in the GC later on.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/03.jpg

The climb in Buerup generates no interest, despite the jersey for the taking. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Lovik led until 150 meters when pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige passed him. One more climb later in the stage, but the Icelander is in pole position for the polka dots.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/04.jpg

The peloton has motives to chase again, 30 seconds with 85 kilometer to go, 10 kilometer to an intermediate sprint. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Storer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Resell and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Groves setting a fast pace now.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/05.jpg

Despite the peloton being really close they just fall short at the sprint and no sprinter tried to go for the sprint. The breakaway also doesn't sprint, resulting in an almost five-way tie. The camera inside the banner has to be used determine the order to be pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Quevedo. The German is now two seconds behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Mezgec in the GC.

Right after the sprint they would be caught, with the final mountain sprint in fifteen kilometer.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/06.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Eddie Stobart brings new life into the breakaway with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png De Tier. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige reattack in the background.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/07.jpg

The Belgian reaches Ordrupvej with a lead of one minute over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson dropping back to the peloton which is 40 seconds behind the German. The final two points went to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/eur.png Mahdar.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige's second place at both sprints is enough to deliver him the polka dot jersey at the end of the stage. Sprint winners pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png De Tier tie for second place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/08.jpg

The mountains-leader-designate is caught at 40 kilometer, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png De Tier still with a minute's lead. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Guave, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/eur.png Europcar, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Carrefour pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Carlsberg and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Los Pollos leading the chase. No sign of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Trans with the yellow jersey, nor pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Philips with green.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/09.jpg

1 v 153 is an unfair battle, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png De Tier caught with just over 20 kilometer to go atop a small hill. The road isn't entirely flat so it might invite some attacks, or bring riders in trouble at the back.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/10.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Strava, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Glanbia and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Guave set the pace until ten kilometer, the peloton still intact. With a long, flat and wide road to the finish line, splits seem unlikely...

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/11.jpg

...but individuals are dropped from the pack. Painfully, it's pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige, who collected a lot of bonuses but there's no use if you don't finish in the peloton. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png De Tier and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Seboka lost contact moments before.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/12.jpg

2500 meters to and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Glanbia's train is running out of locomotives, only pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Van der Ploeg for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger trying to use them. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Coutinho still has pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Barbier and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Yamamoto in front of him, confident in the same leadout as yesterday. Other riders have two trains to pick from but the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Guave one looks more promising.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Yamamoto releases pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Coutinho under the flag but the Portuguese doesn't yet go full gas. The other riders only followed in line as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Van der Ploeg is not a steam engine. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Sanikwathi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Manarelli, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Ulanowski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelucchi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Boev all in the long train. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Van Avermaet seems to have won the "who sprints for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Strava" lottery.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/14.jpg

A notable absention is yellow jersey pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Mezgec, who is very far away and is in danger of losing his jersey. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Sbaragli, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Bouhanni, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Habtom, and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Scully seem to hav depended on the Slovenian but are in trouble as well. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen making his way forward, having learned nothing from yesterday.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/15.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Van Avermaet launches the sprint but is passed at the crossing. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelucchi with a marginal lead over pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger but the pack is very close. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Coutinho, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Ulanowski, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Sanikwathi, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Manarelli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Boev all in contention. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen next at quite some distance, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Mezgec seems to have given up.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Boev alongside each other but most others are not out of contention yet, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Ulanowski with more speed even. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen has caught the back of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Sanikwathi, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Tsatevich, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Kelemen and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Li in his slipstream.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/17.jpg

And the Pole sails past to win. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Maciej Ulanowski wins stage two in the Post Danmark Rundt! The other riders on the podium today also appeared on the podium yesterday, even in the same order: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Boev and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/18.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Kragh Andersen with great final speed emerging as fourth, if only he was better positioned. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Coutinho's leadout worked better today but it only brings him fifth. The top ten is completed by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Tsatevich, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gla.png Bennett, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Li, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Pelucchi and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Manarelli.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/C2HC/Danmark/S2/19.jpg

Here are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tst.png Mezgec's final meters in the yellow jersey, finishing a disappointing nineteenth. The new owner of the yellow jersey is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Igor Boev, as two second places bring more bonus seconds than one win. The two stage winners tie for second at four seconds, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Krieger fourth at eight seconds. In fifth is pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Gunnlaugsson who does put his bonus seconds to use, unlike pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Mehr-Wenige who finishes at four minutes. The GC will receive a shakeup tomorrow when we head to the hills.

The points classification is also led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Igor Boev but green will be worn by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Ulanowski. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Dietmar Mehr-Wenige receives the mountains jersey as consolation, while pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mck.png Kristofer Gunnlaugsson smartly takes white away from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Hirschi. The Danish have some weird tiebreaking rules with regards to the teams classification, as I can't think of any plausible metric to award the lead to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afr.png Project: Africa.
