I can't find a definitive answer to this anywhere so hope someone can help.
I'm playing as FDJ and only have available wages of circa 7,500 (GBP). Sandy Casar's contract expires this season (2008) and I'd love to sign him for another couple of years (3 wins by mid Feb), but his wages are circa 13,500 (GBP). I've had a few minor wins and decent placings but my available wages haven't increased at all.
Is it just a case of needing more and bigger wins to get the amount increased so I can re-sign Casar (or any other of my riders that expire this year that I might want to keep)? Or, does the 7,500 not apply to renewing existing riders?
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere - I've browsed through and there are a few threads on the subject, but none that address the question directly.
Money that you earn doesn't affect your transfer budget in the current season, just overall cash for equipment and stuff.
(at least, thats what I've noticed)
I also had a FDJ file, and you can renew Casar's contract and take your wage structure into minus, but that means no other signings are possible as you are restricted to a 1500 cap when you're in the red.
I would recommend editing the budget so you have a more realistic wage bucket. I gave myself another 100,000 so I could actually keep my riders.
Hmmm. I'd picked up on the 1500 cap (mind you - is that Euros? I decided to play in GBP! Hey - I guess they're nearly 1 to 1 now anyway....).
So - renewing existing riders does affect the budget, not just new signings? Bummer! I'm trying to stay away from edits for now else I'll probably naff things up. Be a shame to say good bye to Sandy. Having said that, I'm still learning, so prob won't finish this season before starting another career 'for real'.
I might try renewing a 'cheap' rider and see how that affects things.
It will affect your available wages only if their salary increases, as you are already paying what they are currently earning and this is factored into your available money.
I would say differently.
1. As long as you have a positive salary cap you can extend any contract.
2. You should only sign new riders if this will not drop your total salary below the salary cap.
3. When extending contracts try not to rise the wage by huge amounts. This is to prevent busting the salary cap for next year. (You might get a higher salary cap if your doing good, but the amount is not sure.)
