Vuelta a Colombia - Stage 5
Nemolito
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col01.jpg

The fifth stage of this Vuelta a Colombia sees the riders finishing on an HC mountain for the third time already. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Taaramäe was the strongest one in the first two mountain stages, can the Estonian do it again and complete his hattrick?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col02.jpg

The first obstacle of the day is the Alto Fumaces (3rd cat.). Only two riders in the breakaway, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky taking the six points ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Eenkhoorn.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col03.jpg

Nobody wants to join them and the duo has an advantage of 2’ with 125 km to go. Two points are left at the first intermediate sprint, and it’s pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/tti.png Samolenkov who takes them ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cap.png Lay, the winner of stage 4.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col04.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky takes the six KoM-points on the Alto de Mourisca as well. The leaders have an advantage of 5’ over the peloton, and with 100 km to go they now enter the easiest part of the day, which sees them descending a bit and is mostly flat until the final two climbs. Will they get some more time over the peloton and then decide who wins the stage between them?

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col05.jpg

45 km to go and the two leaders now passing the second intermediate sprint and will soon commence the final climbs of 3rd category and HC. Their lead over the peloton is now 9’45”! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky is number 65 in the GC at more than 20’, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Eenkhoorn is number 115 at 36 minutes. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky should be the strongest climber. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cap.png Lay takes the last two points at the intermediate sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col06.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky taking the six KoM-points on the Alto da Ermida as well. 32 km to go and their lead has now gone over ten minutes!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col07.jpg

The leaders have now started the final climb. It might not be the steepest, but its length is incredible.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col08.jpg

Eleven minutes after the two leaders have past the top of the penultimate climb, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afk.png Koch takes the last two points. Winning the KoM-classification is definitely still possible for the German.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col09.jpg

Still 25 km left to climb but it looks like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Eenkhoorn is already out of the race! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky solo now, surely this can’t go wrong anymore!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col10.jpg

Seems like we spoke too soon, as the two leaders are back together going into the last 20 km of the day! The peloton really not caring at all so far, as all 188 riders are still together and now 14 minutes behind as they just started the final climb!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col11.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Team Puma – SAP has had enough of the lollygagging and takes the matter in their own hands. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Arndt has been performing very well in Colombia and seems to be feeling alright today as well. The difference is slowly being reduced now, with some riders being dropped.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col12.jpg

The two leaders are still together with 10 km to go! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Team Puma – SAP has only brought the peloton one minute closer so far, not spending too much energy. Around thirty riders have been dropped in the peloton, which you can see in the distance.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col13.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Roglic attacking with 8.5 km to go and quickly coming closer to the leaders! The riders trying to follow him are pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ubs.png Amador, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mos.png Hirt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Quintana, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Arndt, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Costagli and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Uran.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col14.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Roglic and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ubs.png Amador have a gap over the other five with 7.5 km to go!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col15.jpg

Meanwhile the two leaders still together with 4 km to go!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col16.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Costagli working for pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Quintana and trying to get back to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Roglic and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ubs.png Amador while they enter the last 2.5 km now! The peloton of 124 riders one minute behind this group!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col17.jpg

Two km left for our leaders though, who’re still riding next to each other!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col18.jpg

They both think they can handle the other one in the sprint as they enter the last km! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Roglic and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ubs.png Amador now at 3 km from the finish, with the situation behind them exactly the same as it was 7.5 km from the finish!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col19.jpg

500 m to go for the two leaders, with pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky taking over from pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Eenkhoorn! Situation behind them still exactly the same, as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Roglic and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ubs.png Amador enter the last 2 km!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col20.jpg

They start sprinting at the same time and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/fcj.png Hacecky holds on to his position so far, 200 m to go for the Czech from Fablok – Chocolate Jacques!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col21.jpg

He manages to hold pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nca.png Eenkhoorn off and wins the fifth stage of the Vuelta a Colombia! Maginificent win for Fablok!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col22.jpg

Back to pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Roglic and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ubs.png Amador, who still have that 20 second lead over their four chasers as pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Costagli has now been dropped there. The other favourites are 1’30” behind Roglic and Amador. It seems like the GC favourites will come closer to each other again!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col23.jpg

The two get caught by their four chasers just before the finish line as everything is close to coming back together! pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ubs.png Amador finishes third in front of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/min.png Uran and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/iso.png Roglic.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col24.jpg

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/rak.png Quintana is just behind them and comes in sixth ahead of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/pum.png Arndt and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mos.png Hirt.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Reports/PTHC/Colombia/S5/5col25.jpg

As can be seen, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/p4e.png Pluchkin and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Taaramäe complete the top-10 just behind pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mos.png Hirt. Twenty seconds later the rest of the favourites, led by pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ebd.png Dombrowski, come in as well. A very calm day for GC leader pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/akm.png Taaramäe without losing much time, and even gaining some on his closest competitor.
